Name is spelled as Hubocker and/or Hubacker in muster rolls. I have a complete copy of war service and pension records for Nicholaus Hubacher who served with Company A, 15th Illinois Volunteer Infantry, War of the Rebellion, Union Army. Enlisted February 24 1865 at age 20 years old. Mustered out September 16th 1865 with company. Difference in surname spelling is addressed in pension documents.
Nicholaus is represented by attorney Thomas Leslie, there are references to identifying information, physical description and sworn statements of two friends who knew him for many years. Nicholaus applied for pension at age 48, 28 years after his war service. He lived to 77 years old and was receiving 72.00 per month pension at the time of his death on April 11th, 1924. Son Nicholaus Hubacher Jr served in the Spanish American War. Nicholaus Hubacher Sr. was a farmer and laborer. His war pension records list the names and birthdates for all of his children as well as his wifes maiden name. I originally thought that the surname of wife Mary Ann was Hilgess, but after looking at the documents again it actually says Hilgers.
