In 2003, we founded a band called Inside Out with the idea of having fun and to attract girls. None of us really knew how to play, and Miles and I had to acquire the instruments. The band was not quite set up for anything, and it wasn't until Miles gained possession of a 1969 Fender Precision Bass that music was even remotely in the works.
Of course I had to get a guitar and learn to play. That became a reality on Christmas Eve 2003 when I was given a Yamaha EG 112C for my birthday. I loved it and instantly felt the urge to play. After years of the alto saxophone, I wanted to change instruments.
Miles and I realized that years of saxophone, as he was a tenor, and stretching our fingers for certain high and low notes left us with flexible fingers and allowed us to play fairly fluidly our first times. For 6 months, we did nothing but teach ourselves our trade.
It finally paid off when we both joined our school jazz band and began to learn true music, not the powerchordial mayhem we were giving anyone who would listen. For another 2 months, we learned blues scales, blues chords, finger picking, bass riffs, and solos. We finally decided to jam after this and realized "Something is here, and it's not the crap we used to play".
We needed a vocalist, and we still need a drummer. Our vocalist is slated to be Ethan Chabot, our good and best friend since the 2nd and 3rd grades. Our drummers came and went, due to family matters and deciept in the band.
Now Miles and I were just jamming after school, we never really wrote anything until I began to finger pick a catchy melody and Miles began a bassline. That song is still untitled, and if you wish to hear it, it's in our Audio section, but without bass. Unfortunately, Miles has not been able to record. I'm the only one so far, but we'll fix it.
Now, we're beginning to play using the styles of our inspirations. Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Black Sabbath, and more. We hope that one day, our band will be complete and we can offer all of you much more than we have now.
