There seems to be a coincidence between the Big E and the City of E. That's Eric Lindros and Edmonton.

Of what seemed only a dream to many Oilers became a reality as one of the league's elite players joined the Oilers franchise, deprived of superstar elite players since those glory days of the 1980's which seems such a distant memory to all.

When questioned about his feelings Lindros replied, "Well it was a great move for me as the Oilers always find a way of improving or creating highly talented players, look at recently history and you will know what I mean" It's true, consider players such as Jason Arnott, Mirolav Satan, Boris Mironov, Bill Guerin, Roman Hamrlik, Curtis Joseph, Doug Weight. And even those at the franchise now, Eric Brewer, Tom Poti, Tommy Salo, Ryan Smyth, Todd Marchant.

Eric Lindros was acquired from the New York Rangers along with a 3rd round draft pick 2002 for Anson Carter and defensive prospect Chris Hajt.

Edmonton GM Rabi Sultan said at the press conference, "I am trying to build a team here that can win the cup within the next 5 years, and please I am not trying to sound like Peter Pocklington", Sultan had quoted a name of the previous Oilers owner who on entry of the NHL had said the same bold statement. Then led by Gretzky, Pocklington's Oilers managed to win the cup in the fifth year. Today Sultan has made the same statement and although Lindros is no Gretzky he is confident he can perform just as important role as number 99 did 20 years ago.

Sources say  that Eric Lindros has agreed to a three-year deal worth around $6million dollars.
