Respiration

What is meant of respiration?

It is aprocess of burning food inside the body cells in presence of oxygen gas to release energy.

Food (Sugars) + Oxygen                  Crbon dioxide + water vapour + energy.

*Importance of respiration :-

All living organisms respire to obtain the energy  needed to do their vital activities.

*Respiration in plants:

-         Air passes through stomata to reach plant cells .

-         In plant cells ,food  combines with oxygen gas to produce energy .

*Respiration in Fish :-

- Fish have gills to breathe the dissolved oxygen in water .

*Respiratory system of the rabbit:-

Rabbit has lungs to breathe oxygen gas from air .

* The respiratory system  consists of :

1-Nose                                    2-Pharynx

3-Larynx                                4-Traches

5-Bronchi                              6-Tow  lungs

·       Functions :

1-   Respiratory system:

1-It provides animals with oxygen gas to obtain energy

and takes away carbon dioxide gas.

 2-Nose :

1-It contains hair to  purify inhaled air from dirt and dust .

2-It contains cilia to trap dirt and dust .

3-It contains mucus to moisten  the air.

4-Its inner surface is coverd with capillaries to warm the air before it enters the lungs.

 3-Larynx :

·       It is the organ of voice (has vocal cords).

·        It prevents food to pass into the respiratory system where the epiglottis closes the larynx.

4-Pharynx(Throat):

     - It connects the nose to the rachea.

5-Epiglottis:

-It prevents food to  enter  the respiratory system .where it closes the larynx on food swallowing.

6-Trachea :

It allows inhaled air to pass  to lungs and the exhaled air to pass out.

It has cilia to sweep dirt and dust up the trachea .

7-Air sacs (alveoli) :they permit gases exchange.

*Diaphragm: it helps  inhalation and exhalation processes.

** sound is  produced in man due to the vibration of vocal cords.

How can keep the respiratory system healthy?

1-breathe through the nose and not through the mouth.

2-Don’t smoke  or use narcotics .

**smoking and using narcotics may lead to addiction which can cause:
1-Mental disorder            2-loss of appetite.

3-Nervous system disorder .4-loss of balance.

5-A lack of immunity . 5-diseases such as lung irritation ,tuberculosis and influenza.

*How can you protect yourself from respiratory system diseases?

1-stay away from sick people.

2-don’t use  things of sick person s..

*********

Give reason :

1-The presence of a muccus in the nose.

-         To moisten the inhaled air before it enters the lungs.

2-Nose contains hair.

-To purify inhaled air from dirt and dust.

3- The inner  surface of nose is covered with capillaries.

-To warm the inhaled air before it enters the lung.

4-The trachea contains a mucus and cilia.

-To sweep any dirt or dust up the trachea.

5-food does not enter the respiratory system on its swallowing.

-Because the epiglottis closes the larynx during food swallowing.

6-We should breathe in through the nose and not through the mouth.

1-contains hair to purify the inhaled air from dirt and dust.

2-contains mucus to moisten the air and trap particles of dirt and dust..

3-contains cilia to trap dirt and dust.

4-The inner surface is covered with capillaries to warm the air before it enters the lungs.

7-It is better not to put green plants in bedroom at night.

-because in night the photosynthesis process stops so the plant do not produce oxygen gas and it respires by taking oxygen gas and giving out carbon dioxide gas.

·       Write the scientific term:

1-An organ of the body that prevents food from entering  the respiratory system during swallowing food.                                                                         (                        )

2-Getting the air out of the lungs.                                                       (                        )

3-Entering the air into the lungs                                                          (                       )

4-The act of combining food with oxygen gas to produce energy. (                        )

5-The organs by which the fish obtain oxygen gas from water.      (                       )

6-A process by which living organisms obtain energy.                     (                       )

7-The organ by which rabbit gets its oxygen gas.                             (                       )

8-A process in which energy is released.                                             (                       )
