SOS Bunny district!

T
here are several things to consider when you find an abandoned kit.
1.) Before you decide to take a kit that you think is abandoned make sure you look around for a nest or any trace that might lead you to the nest of the litter. If you know that the mother had been killed or that the nest was destroyed by a predator and there are none surving left you could rescue the abandoned babies. Some people think that it would be nice to have a pet
bunny, however that pet bunny will turns in to an adult rabbit very quickly.
2.) If the kit is not injured but is weak make sure you keep it in a warm and quiet place. There are different ways to warm them up. If the kit is hairless and is cold to the touch then you can place it in an open ziploc bag in some warm water. Make sure it is not too hot, and not too cold. DO NOT let the bag be unattended. Be careful that you don't get water in the bag. This technique has revived some. However, if the kit has been exsposed to the cold for too long it loses body heat and eventually dies. Some kits have knowen to be a bit stiff and still revived after careful care. You could also warm it up under your shirt and on your chest. This lets the transmitted heat warm the kit.

You should warm up the area where you will have the kit. Either a heating lamp that is not directed on the kit,(make sure you don't have it too hot and directly on the skin), this will cause heat stroke or burn the skin. A kit's skin is very sensitive.

A kit that has hair on it is a lot easier to care for then the hairless kits. Please take the same precausions.

If you have an animal rehabilitation center near you, I would advise you to take it there immedietly. In the meantime make sure the baby is in a quiet and safe place (not a damp place).

Taking a wild rabbit is not a wise idea. It will be terrified and will most likely die from shock. If it is injured and you were able to catch it with out scareing it too much. Take it to the rehabilitation center
immedietly!

When feeding a kit you should use a formula that is very high in protein  The mother's milk is very high in protein, that is why the mother doesn't feed them as often as you will need to.

This is just a little info on abandoned rabbits. For further information click the link below for all the help you need.
Good luck and God Bless!
