LED Flashlight by Dorcy. This flashlight is bright, runs on 4 AA batteries for about 200 plus hours. The cost is about $12 - $13 dollars, and I have seen them on sale at Sears and Wal-Mart. This has been updated with a brighter LED, not sure if the 200 hour runtime still hold up. The warranty is now one year, down from a lifetime warranty. Check it out at the Dorcy Webpage

Microsoft Wheel Mouse Optical. Once I tried this computer mouse, I retired my mechanical mice with the rubber balls. This mouse has a camera inside, and determines movement with a processor in the mouse. I read somewhere the processor in the mouse is more powerful than an XT computer was. Works on many computers with PS2 connections, but without the included software, you many not be able to use the scroll wheel feature. I have used it on a Windows 95 machine. It's still worth it for those machines. Cost is about $15 - $20 dollars with rebates lowering the cost to $5 to $10 during promotions. Uses PS2 or USB hookup. Update April 2005: I have noticed that the gliding pads on the bottom of this mouse and other MS mice can either accumulate dirt or the pads can actually wear out and the mouse won't move easily. I repaired a relative's mouse by removing the MS original pads and glueing on some hard nylon mouse pads from an older mouse. Microsoft Mouse

Netgear FS605/FS608 v1 Network switch. This is an ideal switch, runs fast, connects easily because all the ports autoconfigure. Netgear also finally quit putting the status lights on the same side of the box as the cables, making this look really good sitting on your desktop. Reasonable pricing too. Netgear has revised the product v2 and put the status lights on the top of the unit, a very poor location. Best bet would be to buy an older unit, perhaps from an auction site instead of a new unit. Too bad Netgear had to ruin a good thing. 2007,I guess Netgear must read my webpage. They now have V3 of the product and the LEDS are on the front again ! They dropped the different colors to indicate link speed, though, something that I have found very useful for troubleshooting. Netgear FS605 Webpage
