With tears still in her eyes, Alhann stroked the beautiful green hide of her new dragon. It had been torture, waiting for the eggs to hatch. The dam of the clutch apparently hadn't realized how frustrating it could be to have false alarm after false alarm. But now, now she was with her one -- well, her TWO -- true loves. Nilayith rolled her little green head over onto Alhann's lap. I know you love me. But who is this other! No other loves you like I do! "I know, dearest, I know that's true." She said, grinning. She looked up at Ch'ris, her wonderful and perfect love from before any dragon entered her heart. His bronze dragonet lay half-on his lap, mostly off it. They'd finished their feeding, and snoozed. Alhann whispered to Nilayith, "you will love him too, Nilayith. He is easy to love."

"I never said it would be easy to fly, Nil!" Alhann laughed. They had gotten their straps on right, but Nilaith just wasn't getting the flapping down right. It is too difficult. But I will try again, because your second love's handsome bronze is already flying. "I thought that might get you into the air, Nil." Alhann watched the man who chased her across the ocean chase more dreams into the skies over Dawn Sisters. Nabendith was such a fine bronze, so sweet too! Like his rider, Alhann thought. But he was more than sweet. He was courageous and handsome, and far more than his greedy holder father could ever be. I will fly! Look! I am doing it! With that, Nilayith brought her wings into a perfect form and they lept into the sky! Of course, the weyrling master made them do it over and over, until they were exhausted, but they loved it. And now, Nabendith and his green clutchmate could compete for the attention of each other's riders on even terms!

Nilayith and Alhann cruised the sky looking for the dreadful silver Thread. Finally, knowing that it would be there, they cleared a certain grouping of peaks, and -- there it was. Tell the weyr, tell our wing, that Thread does fall. It's over the mountains, but it'll head toward the Holds nearby. They won't know it yet, the peaks are too high up to see past them. Is that not why the fire heights are there? To alert people? Yes, but that's by the weyr. And besides, no one in their right mind would be out here up at the peaks, fire or not! It's freezing on those mountains! Nilayith just grumbled. Something about her rider always being so ... human! And how humans of course were the wimpiest things, can't stand cold, can't stand deep water or high altitudes... "Shush," Alhann said, as they went between and back to the weyr. The wing was assembling, but she'd already done her part. Her love was on his strong bronze already, and as they passed one another, each gave their private loving salute.
