There's freedom from all forms of bondage
in JESUS CHRIST!
I started smoking cigarettes at age 13; this was in 1955. They cost 23 cents a pack. In a short time I was smoking more than four packs of non-filter cigarettes a day. In 1998 I tried three times to stop smoking. I was music minister for the LORD and I felt that I could sing better for the LORD if I did not smoke. I felt that my witness for the LORD was not as good as it would be if I did not smoke. I knew that Tobacco and my abuse of it (excess) was endangering my health, I couldn't afford the cost of over $1.50 per pack. I managed about three days abstinence and once I went briefly back to drinking. I was irritable, miserable, and pitiful. I said to the LORD: �Lord, I can't do it. You take away the habit/addiction and I'll give YOU all the GLORY� Well, HE did!!!!
I was watching a well-known TV minister, and he said that everything you do, do to the GLORY of GOD! And if you don't believe me all you who haven't turned loose of those cigarettes, the next time you light one of those nasty things up; do it to the GLORY of GOD and see how far it will get you! That got my attention!! Then in the summer of 1999, a visiting minister was at the church that I was attending. He was holding a healing/teaching group of meetings. The last night he was there he called for all of those who wanted deliverance of tobacco to come forward. About half of the congregation went forward. The minister walked right up to me and said, �You're going to be delivered tonight!� I said, �Praise GOD, I receive that� and I threw up my hands to the LORD!
Well, the next morning I fished my cigarettes out of the trashcan and lit one up and it tasted nasty!! I was too ignorant to realize that I had been delivered. My flesh still wanted to do what it had been doing for 44 years. I went on smoking and not enjoying it for several months. Then one Sunday morning I did as usual; it was my habit to record the 30-minute message from a TV evangelist aired at 10:30 A.M. I was at our church then preparing for our 11:00 A.M. service. The Pastor then said, �Wednesday night we are going to take communion.� I filed that away and when I got home I played the video that had been recording while I was at church. The TV minister said, �Now, when you take communion, if you have any issues, health, wealth, or addictions, leave them on the altar and then take communion.� It was obvious to me that the same spirit was in operation with the TV minister and with my pastor there in Temple. The following Tuesday the tobacco store had gone up $2.39 per carton of generics. I didn't buy any. Wednesday night I said, �LORD, I lay this addiction to cigarettes on the altar as you've instructed me by your word and through your ministers. I trust you to give me strength to resist temptation in JESUS HOLY NAME! AMEN!� I then took communion. Then on the following Friday, the LORD gave me a strong message to preach on strength in the LORD using Isaiah 53:10-12, and several passages in Romans.
This divine deliverance was accomplished by the Lord in September 1999. There were no withdrawal symptoms or cravings from 44 yrs of hard-core addiction.
