what bands have you been in
over the years?
We've been doing Power-Pop, or Guernsey Beat, since about
1982
There's thirty-five releases out there somewhere!

Risk |

| The

the Sacred Hearts
sleeves where quite psychedelic, but you played straight
out power-pop?
Oh Yeah for sure, but a lot of the 80's psyche bands were
really power-pop, but I like to re-define things. Garage
to me is anything from the MC5 & Ramones, to The
Sonics, Cramps & Fuzztones. Ace punk rock, but
basic.
It must have been hard being
in Guernsey based bands?
Yeah, really hard. We're a bit different over here, a bit
backward in a way, but we love the Island a lot, though
getting away to play in the UK more often would have been
good. Personally I've done about 20 tours through Europe
and the U.S, so it's not too much of an ambition. We just
like to make good music really.
are you happy with your
current band?
Yeah, The Redbones are great. Really basic, dead simple,
hopefully just great pop. The Sacred Hearts got a bit
boring, too many things happened and we all lost the
point, but The Redbones are a great Power-Pop combo.
do you have a new Redbones
record coming out soon?
Yes, but the band is just me and has really always been
just a lot of my own ideas, so expect a release someday
in the future, but don't hold your breath as I am doing a
new album with The Risk.
now you're knocking out
great pop do you have any desires for some kind of fame
and 'pop' success?
No, I'm too old and sad. We're a bit passed it, except
for our drummer, Brett, he's just fantastic.
what comes first, your band
or Twist Records?
Both. I love Twist and I love my music. Twist is music
not business.
did Twist begin purely for
the Hearts, did you see it taking off as a legitimate
Record label?
Yes, it did, it existed for the Hearts, but Frank had
much bigger and
better ideas.
what are you most proud of
on the label?
Thee Headcoates single, The Nuthins, Stewed. All the
bands have really
great records. The Mystreated have some blinding stuff!
any chance of a Twist
showcase gig?
Haven't thought about that for a while. I was going to do
one a couple of years back but I just haven't got any
time, I am far too busy. Its good idea though.
the Sires LP has had a bit
of a mixed reception, what do you think of the LP?
Its a punk rock lo-fi record and I like it. I was aware
it had a mixed reception in Europe but I wasn't aware of
any in the UK. They are in the film with the All Saints,
which will be very interesting. They are a band playing
at a 60's festival and they are doing their own music.
The film is called Honest and is out in the spring.
have you heard from any of
ex-Nuthins about releasing some of their new
stuff?
The Unchayned sent a tape. We like them they're a good
band, Bob is in them. I'm sure Mojo would always send me
some stuff to listen to at least.
what are we to expect from
Twist in the near future? What about the Nuthins last
7"?
Yep it's actually out in about 2 weeks and its
fantastic!! Next up The Solar Flares, phew what an LP!
It's so good! and hopefully the Bronco boys will send a
tape soon.
