The MUN Process

The first thing you need to know about making a formal harassment complaint at MUN is that you only have 12 months, from the time the harassment ends, to begin this process.
To look into making a formal complaint, see Sandra Chaytor, MUN's sexual harassment advisor.
She'll start the process, once you make a written request. (Until then, anything you tell her is confidential.)
Then she'll inform the harasser of the complaint, and arrange a hearing.
At the hearing, you'll have to describe the harassment you experienced. The harasser will also be there, and will say what s/h/ze claims happened.
The hearing committee will ask both of you questions, and you and the harasser will have the chance to question each other.
Both you and the harasser can bring up to three "advisors" to the hearing. If the harasser can afford it, his/her/hir advisors will probably be lawyers.
So far, only one person has chosen to go through a formal hearing since the policy took effect in 1991.
The policy is presently under review.
Sandra Chaytor can be reached at (709) 737-2015. Her office is in SN 1017.
