Clinton County





Clinton County is located in northcentral Pennsylvania, just northeast of Center County and west of Lycoming County. It is easy to pick out when you look at a map of Pennsylvania, because it is shaped like a boot. The population in Clinton County is 67,000. The seed of the county is the city of Lock Haven, the biggest city in the county. Lock Haven is in southern Clinton County.

The population in Lock Haven is 12,000. It's a beautiful place to live. There is some crime in Clinton County, but not as much as in the bigger cities. There are plenty of nice people in Lock Haven. Flemington is a burrough, and it is just about thirty feet from my house. Mill Hall is located three miles west of Lock Haven and is also a burrough. Renovo, which is also a burrough, is in northern Clinton County. Avis, a burrough as well, is located in the eastern part of the county.

Sports in Clinton County
Clinton County is known for their wrestling and football events at Lock Haven University. They have wrestling, football, men's and women's basketball, women's field hocky, women's softball, men's and women's volleyball, men's and women's track and field, men's baseball, men's and women's soccer, and men's and women's tennis. The university's colors are crimson and white.

Enrollment is 3,600.

High School Sporting Events
Central Mountain High School - The Wildcats. Colors are Royal Blue, light blue, and white. CMHS is located in Lusk Run. CMHS is a quad-A school. Central Mountain High can hold 1,600 students. The football stadium seats 5,000. CMHS is known for wrestling, football, basketball, soccer, and track and field.

Wal*Mart Supercenter is in Bald Eagle Township, as is Pizza Hutt and Original Italian Pizza. Burger King and Arby's are located in Flemington. McDonald's, Dunkin Donuts, Wendy's, Pizza King, That's The Scoop Video & Ice Cream, Weis Market, Domino's Pizza, Kentucky Fried Chicken, Subway, and Lucky Seven Meats are located in Lock Haven. Aungst's Family Restaurant is located in Mill Hall. The Sheetz Convenience Store is directly across from Wal*Mart in Bald Eagle Township.

A Look at more businesses
K-Mart is in Bald Eagle Township, as is Radio Shack; another West Coast Video is located almost adjacent to K-Mart. CVS Pharmacy is located in downtown Lock Haven, as is the Dollar Bazaar and the Dollar General. Mayes' All Sports is located in downtown Lock Haven also, along with Heilig-Myers and the A-Plus minimart.

Best Western in Lock Haven. The Lock Haven Motel is located in Bald Eagle Township.

Recreational Activities
Lock Haven University. The Susquehanna River, good for waterskiing and such. The Central Pennsylvania Mountains, which look beautiful during fall. Lock Haven YMCA. The Clinton County Courthouse. Also, the Lock Haven Hospital and Susque-View Nursing Home, adjacent to the hospital in Lock Haven.

Events in Clinton County
The fourth of July weekend draws many people each year. The boat regatta weekend, in which motor boats speed up and down the Susquehanna River at 200+ miles per hour and just on the other side of the dike is a festival that draws thousands every year. This boat regatta is the biggest boat race on the eastern seaboard. The annual Lock Haven fly-in is held at the Piper Memorial Airport, with a festival adjacent. Planes come from around the world to compete in the fly-in. The fly-in lasts for three days, which draws thousands each days. Also, the River Fest is held at the boat launch area along the Susquehanna River in Woodward Township.

My summary of Lock Haven and Clinton County
I hope you've learned much about Clinton County. If you ever get the chance to visit the area, please do so. Either to catch a sporting event or a summer event, or to visit for the scenery. I'm sure you'll be pleased, and once again, don't forget to pay a visit to the Wal*Mart Supercenter as you make your way toward Lock Haven off the Mill Hall exit.
