Climbers

Back to Ron's Puzzle Page!

Climber At 6 a.m. one Saturday, you and a friend begin a recreational climb of Mt. Mystic. Two hours into your climb, you are overtaken by some scouts. As they pass, they inform you that they're attempting to set a record for ascending and descending the mountain. At 10 a.m. they pass you again on their way down, crowing that they hadn't stopped once to rest, not even at the top.

You finally reach the summit at noon. Assuming that both you and the scouts traveled at uniform rates, both climbing and descending, when did the scouts reach the top of Mt. Mystic?
