Keeping all 3 dimensions in mind, the simple answer is to cut half-way between the top and bottom of the cake! This answer is creative, but wrong.
What's wrong with this answer?
The top piece gets all of the frosting, so the cake wasn't cut into 2 equal parts.

Smash the cake and re-shape it into a sphere. Then cut the sphere in half!
This answer is creative, but again it's wrong.Actually I don't know what's wrong with this answer (it's the answer I came up with), but I was told it's not the correct answer. I guess the problem is, no one would want to eat the cake after it's been smashed. And I have to admit, the correct answer is much better.

Any line through the center point of a rectangle will cut the rectangle into 2 equal parts. By cutting the original and the removed rectangles in half, you've cut the remaining cake in half!
- Find the center point of the original rectangle. Do this by drawing diagonal lines from the original corners, estimate the missing corner.
- Find the center point of the rectangle that was removed. Again, by drawing diagonal lines from the original corners and again estimating for the missing corner.
- Draw a line between these to points. Cut along this line.
