And in that day there shall be
a root of Jesse, and he that shall arise to rule over the Gentiles; in
him shall the Gentiles trust, and his rest shall be glorious
|
And again, Isaiah saith, There shall be the root of Jesse, And he that ariseth to rule over the Gentiles; On him shall the Gentiles hope |
And it shall come to pass in that day, that the root of Jesse, that standeth for an ensign of the peoples, unto him shall the nations seek; and his resting-place shall be glorious |
Comments: Brenton gives “trust” where the ASV translates “hope” but the Greek is identical. There is no mention in the MT of the root of Jesse’s reign over the Gentiles. The NIV translates the verse as, “In that day the Root of Jesse will stand as a banner for the peoples; the nations will rally to him, and his place of rest will be glorious.” |
