Septuagint

for Israel is a child, and I loved him, and out of Egypt have I called his children

New Testament

Out of Egypt did I call my son

Masoretic Text

When Israel was a child, then I loved him, and called my son out of Egypt

Comments:  The NT agrees with the MT.  The LXX differs, replacing “my son” with “his children.”

Matthew identifies the author of this passage as “the prophet”:  “that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, Out of Egypt have I called my son.”
