In one house shall it be eaten, and ye shall not carry the flesh out from the house; and a bone of it ye shall not break |
For these things came to pass, that the scripture might be fulfilled, A bone of him shall not be broken |

| Comments: The NT, LXX and MT agree. It is clear that the New Testament depends on the LXX reading. The NT author has changed the tense, person and voice of the verb, to suit his purposes. The English translations of the final pronoun differ, taking advantage of an ambiguity in the Greek: the pronoun autou can mean either “of it” or “of him,” depending on the context. In the Old Testament, the reference primarily is to the Passover lamb, an “it.” |
