Septuagint

Thou shalt fear the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve; and shalt cleave to him, and by his name shalt thou swear

New Testament

Matthew 4.10:  Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan:  for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve

Luke 4.8:  And Jesus answered and said unto him, It is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve

Masoretic Text

Thou shalt fear Jehovah thy God; and him shalt thou serve, and shalt swear by his name

Comments:  The NT, LXX and MT agree except in the verb.  One could take “worship” as a synonym for “fear,” but it seems a bit of a stretch.  Lamsa’s translation from the Peshitta gives “reverence.”

Brenton’s Septuagint is based on Codex Vaticanus.  Codex Alexandrinus replaces fobhqhsh with proskunhseiV, bringing the LXX into agreement with the NT.
