But now thy kingdom shall not stand to thee, and the Lord shall seek for himself a man after his own heart; and the Lord shall appoint him to be ruler over his people, because thou hast not kept all that the Lord commanded thee |
I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after my heart, who shall do my will |
But now thy kingdom shall not continue: Jehovah hath sought him a man after his own heart, and Jehovah hath appointed him to be prince over his people, because thou hast not kept that which Jehovah commanded thee |
Comments: The NT, LXX and MT agree. “I have found David” is supplied by Psalm 89.20. It may be that “David the son of Jesse” is from Psalm 72.20 and “who shall do my will” is from Isaiah 44.28, in reference to Cyrus. If so, this verse is a conflation from four sources. |
