Welcome to the Tri-Valley HS state championship page created by catcher Ryan Buffington. I hope you enjoy your stay. History has been made, and the memories of those closing moments at RiverSide Stadium and the celebratory parade through the Valley will last a lifetime. All of the Hegins Valley is aglow in pride for the Bulldogs, who captured not only their school's first state championship, but Schuylkill County's and District 11's as well. Lets take a closer look at their memorable season.

The Spirit of Teamwork
The Tri-Valley Bulldog boy's baseball team, which won the PIAA Class AA boys baseball state championship taught me two significant lessons in human character that I knew existed in theory, but until that moment never saw in practice. One lesson impressed upon me was the spirit of teamwork.--Jason Lee Shade-Citizen Standard
Now Lets Take a Look at the Team!
"The Big Nine"
Class of 97'
#9 Tori Miller--His record speaks for itself, over the last two seasons on the pitching mound he has a career record of 23-1. In 96' he went 12-1, pitching his way into Tri-Valley record books..
#10 Matt Specht--He led the team with a .430 batting ave.,  RBI's (24). He also pitched for the Dawgs and held a record of 10-2. Miller and Specht formed the District's best 1-2 pitching combination teaming up for 22 wins.
#8 Brad Morgan--His timely hits help the team clench victories with game winning at bats. His great glovework made him the most solid Tri-Valley middle infielder.
#2 Joel Shadle--His speed is what will be remembered, leading the team in stolen bases(23). Also the game against Devon Prep, where he was hit by the pitch to bring in the winning run.  Joel was always intense, keeping the bench fired up.
#11 Josh Miller--His big hit at RiverSide Stadium knocked in the winning runs for the Dawgs. His solid play at third base helped the team get out of some big jams.
Class of 96'
#4 David (JR) Wenrich--His speed on the basepaths was key in success of the Bulldogs. He went on to lead the Schuylkill League in runs scored. His attitude of no one can throw me out when stealing bases; carried over to the rest of the team. JR will be missed for his speed in the field and just for easy going self.
#13 Mark Shuey--He made the transition from the outfield to first base look easy. Teaming up with Wenrich, Shadle, and Morgan to form the Bulldog's posse of speed demons on the basepaths to terrorize the opposition.
#14 Brad Reed--He didn't see much playing time during the season, but when he was called on in the playoffs, boy did he deliver. In four out of six plate appearances he was hit by the pitch(wierd stuff). He will be missed for all the stories that he told us on the way home from games.
#12 Ryan Buffington--Just played the roll of catcher, had a lot of fun, an enjoyed every minute of the ride. I would like to take the time to thank everyone who made this possible. First, Coach Wetzel, who instilled a confidence in us that no one beside ourselves has matched. The seniors that played ball with me ever since I was little. What a way to go out!! And a special thanks to my pitcher and friend Tori. Thanks for making me look good behind the plate. It was real fun catching you. And our loyal DAWG FANS, thank you for following us all season, we love you. Thanks
Thank you Pottsville Republican for all your sensational coverage of our amazing season.
