HISTORY OF THE RIVERSIDE 4 WHEELERS

Updated 3/99

The Riverside ATV Club was formed in early 1983 by Richard Tudor, who was a member of the Orange County Three Wheelers Club who had moved to Riverside. Richard still wanted to be a member of an ATV club, so he formed this club, the Riverside ATV Club. The name of the club stayed the same until 1994 when it was changed to the Riverside 4 Wheelers. In the early days of the club the hot ride was a
Honda 250R three wheeler, while the rest of the riders had everything from Honda 70's on up to the "big" 250R. The ride spots that the club had then are still some of the same spots we ride today. Some of the “old” ride spots were Glamis, Dumont Dunes, Stoddard Wells, Bell Mountain, Pismo Beach, Ocotillo Wells and our favorite winter time
run was Beatty, Nevada for New Years Eve.

The club has always enjoyed a membership of 20 to 40 families, and many of these members have been with the club since its early formative years. The evolution of this particular club is unique, however, because the club has gone from the three wheeler days to the days of the quads and sand rails and now to the four wheel drive sport utility
vehicles. As the evolution of toys begins, some clubs fold and the members join different clubs. The friendships that have been molded in this club have managed to weather the evolution of toys. One of the main reasons that this club still exists is because the friendships have held the club together.

The advent of the four wheel drive vehicles in this club started with one Suzuki Samurai and the Samurai is still the vehicle of choice for several of the members. The club has now evolved into a typical club that has all varieties of vehicles. The club is a member of Cal 4 Wheel Drive Association and we have many individual members of that
organization also.

As a four wheel drive club, we are not particular where we ride as long as we are riding somewhere. Favorite spots are and were the Heritage Trail, Mojave Trail, Big Bear (Our Adopt-A-Trail), Ocotillo Wells, Parker and Tierra Del Sol at New Years to name a few. A few of the members have driven the Dusy trail once, the Rubicon at least twice, and the
Moab Easter Jeep Safari at least six times and also an annual trek to Quartzsite, AZ for some others. A few of us have been fortunate enough to have done all of the above!!
We also have gone to many of the Cal 4 Wheel Drive Association sanctioned runs and we sponsored the Tombstone Canyon Run in the Hi-Desert over Memorial Day for a number of years. Santiago's Revenge, Sierra Trek, Tierra Del Sol are also some of our
favorite Cal 4 Wheel events.
