Nitroglycerin
-------------

* Warning *

This is a very volital substance. I highly recommend not
making this. One wrong move and you can laterally blow
yourself into two or more pieces. Nitroglycerin is a very
unstable substance so use all caution in handling this
stuff. The slightest bomb could bump you off the face of the
earth.

--------------------------------------------------------

-Ingredients-

13ml Fuming Red Nitric Acid (98% pure)
36ml Fuming Sulfic Acid (99% pure:H2SO4)
** Glycerin
1pt. Bicarbonate of Soda (Sodium Bicarbonate)
*** Blue Litmus Paper
2 75ml beaker Eye Dropper Glass stirrer Tub big enough to hold beaker and plenty of ice Ice Tub full of ice and water to dump runaway solution Steady hands Patients Lots of Guts

** However much you want.

Mixin'
--------------------------------------------------------

*NOTE* Fill a small tub with ice water and have it beside
your work table. If the temp. goes bad immediately dump it in
the bath.

1) Pour 13ml of Red Nitric Acid into the 75ml beaker.

2) Place beaker in ice bath and allow to cool to below
room temp.

3) After it has cooled, add to it all of the Sulfuric acid.
*Note* When mixing two acids be careful and always do it slowly and carefully to avoid splashing.

4) When the two are mixed lower their temp. to 10-15 cent. by adding ice to the icebath.

5) When the acid solution has cooled to the to the desired temp. it is ready for the Glycerin. The glycerin must be added slowly in small amounts with an eye dropper. (Read this step about 10 times!) Glycerin is added carefully and slowly (and I mean CAREFULLY!) until the entire surface of the acid is covered with it.

6) This is the dangerous part sense the nitration will take place as the glycerin is added. The nitration will produce heat, so the solution must be kept below 30 degrees centigrade! If the solution should go beyond 30 degrees then immediately dump the solution in the ice bath!!! This will insure that it won't blow your face off.

7) For the first 10 minutes of nitration, the mixture should be gently stirred. In a normal reaction the nitroglycerin will form as a layer on top of the acid solution, while the sulferic acid will absorb the excess water.

8) After the nitration has taken place, and the nitroglycerin has formed on the top of the solution, the entire beaker should be transferred slowly and CAREFULLY to another beaker of water. When this is done the nitroglycerin should settle at the bottom so the other acids can be drained away.

9) After removing as much acid as possible without disturbing the nitroglycerin, remove the nitroglycerin with an eyedropper and place it in a bicarbonate of soda. The sodium is an alkali and will neutralize much of the acid remaining.. This process should be repeated as much as necessary using blue litmus paper to check for the presence of acid. The remaining acid only makes the nitroglycerin more unstable than it already is.

10) Finally! The final step is to remove the nitroglycerin from the bicarbonate. This is done with an eyedropper, slowly and CAREFULLY. The usual test to see if the nitration has been successful is to place one drop on metal and ignite it. If it is true nitroglycerin it will burn with a clear blue flame.

Notes on Nitro:
It is stupid to make more than 200 grams of nitro at
one time.
Once you have Nitro and saturated it with bycarbonate.
You can make a really powerful explosive that won't go off
by itself. Simply mix it with as much cotton as you can and
then saturate it with melted parifine. Use equal amounts of
Nitro, Cotton, and parafine. This when wrapped with
newspaper, was once know as "Norbin & Ohlsson's Patent
Dynamite," but that was back in 1896.

Dynamite
--------------

Dynamite is just nitroglycerin and a stabalizing agent.
I have abbreviated Nitroglycerin with NG to save time. The
numbers are percentages, be sure to mix carefully and be
sure to use exact amounts. These %'s are in weight ratio not
volume.

Black Powder
--------------

Black powder can be prepared in a simple, safe manner.
It may be used as blasting or gun powder.

Material required:
-------------------

3 cups Potassium nitrate, granulated
2 cups Powdered wood charcoal
1/2 cup Powdered sulfur
5 pints Alcohol (whiskey, rubbing alcohol, etc.)
3 cups Water (h2o) Heat source
2 Buckets (2 gallon cap. at least one that is heat resistant.)
1 Flat window screen
1 Large wooden stick
Cloth, at least 2 ft square

*note*
The above amounts will yield 2 pounds of black powder.
However, only the ratio of the amounts of ingredients are
important. Thus, for twice as much powder double all
quantities.

Procedure
----------

1) Place alcohol in one of the buckets

2) Place potassium nitrate, charcoal, and sulfur in the
heat resistant bucket. Add 1 cup water and mix
thoroughly with wooden stick until all ingredients are
dissolved.

3) Add remaining water to mixture. Place bucket on heat
source and stir until small bubbles begin to form.

*Caution* Do not boil mixture! Be sure all mixture stays
wet. If any is dry, as on sides of pan, it may ignite!!

4) Remove bucket from heat and pour mixture into alcohol
while stirring vigorously.

5) Let alcohol stand about 5 minutes. Strain mixture
through cloth to obtain black powder. Discard liquid. Wrap
cloth around powder and squeeze to remove all excess liquid.

6) Place screen over dry bucket. Place workable amount of
damp powder on screen and granulate by rubbing solid through
screen.

Note: if granulated particles appear to stick together and
change shape, recompile entire batch of powder and repeat
steps 5 and 6.

7) Spread granulated powder on flat dry surface so that it
is about 1/2 inch thick. Allow to dry. The faster you can
get the powder to dry the better it is. If you are using a
heat source remove it as soon as the stuff is dry.

Smoke Bomb
----------

Mix:

4 parts sugar
6 parts potassium nitrate

Heat over low flame till melts, stir well, then pour into a
container. Before it solidified, put a few matches in for
fuses.

*one pound of this stuff will fill a block nicely with a
thick cloud of white smoke.*

Generic Bomb
------------

1) Acquire a glass container
2) Put in a few drops of gasoline
3) Cap the top
4) Now shake the container until the inside is coated and
evaporates
5) Add a few drops of potassium permanganate
6) The bomb is detonated by throwing against a solid object

* After throwing run. It packs a punch of about a 1/2 a
stick of dynamite.

Unstable Explosive
------------------

Mix solid Nitric Iodine with house hold ammonia. Wait
overnight and then pour off the liquid. You will be left
with a muddy substance. Let this dry till it hardens. Now
throw it at something!!

Hindenberg Bomb
---------------

Needed:

1 Balloon
1 Bottle
1 Liquid Plumer
1 Piece of Aluminum Foil
1 Length of fuse

Fill bottle 3/4 full with liquid plummer and add a
little piece of foil to it. Put the balloon over the neck of
the bottle until the balloon is full of the resulting gas.
This highly flammable hydrogen. Now tie the balloon. Now tie
the fuse to the balloon and light it. Let the balloon rise,
when the fuse contacts that balloon....Boom!

Portable Grenade Launcher
-------------------------

Needed:

Aluminum Arrow
Bow
Black Powder
Shotgun Primer
BB
Super Glue

Remove the furrow from the arrow. You should be left
with a hollow shaft. Fill the shaft with the powder. Glue
the shotgun primer into the end of the arrow. (With half a
brain you can figure out which way it goes) Glue the BB on
top of the primer.
 Shoot the arrow at something.
I would advise that you be careful with this. Lots of
aluminum shrapnel can fly. Also don't drop the arrows, you
could loose a leg. Have fun.
