1.Always check for viruses and update your anti-virus 2.Defragment you computer every 2 weeks depending how often you download, because when you download files sometimes there put in wrong places and take alot of space and could slow donw your computer, also with defragmenting alot of your programs will run much faster.
3.Check if your behind a firewall,because you dont want hackers getting into your computer, and if you aint in a firewall you better get one!
4.Delete unused folders and files that you dont need you want to save space on your hard drive.
5.Make sure your email doesnt get spammed which means dont be giving all the websites your same email because this can cause your computer to freeze and stall alot because of spam email, so create a spam email which you make another email account, so this way all the emails that are worth nothing can be thrown to your spam email account.
6.Make sure your computer has all the latest update drivers such as video cards, hard drives, and sound cards.
7.Make sure your computer and monitor is getting enough air because you can burn you fans, and your computers spark wires so make sure of that!!!
8.If your going to download alot of mp3's I mean alot if your a person who loves music and has atleast more than 500mp3's please get a bigger hard drive, this will kill your computer in so many ways of lag, slowness to files and just lose alot of your hard drive space.
