| Poor R1...some things shouldn't be done to bikes | ||||||||
| I did this July 18th, the day after my 30th birthday. Actually riding the R1 was my birthday present from my best friend. Of course, I'd agreed before hand that I would fix anything if I broke it; after the wreck, I decided I might as well buy the entire bike since it would basically be new anyway... It took 4 weeks before I could even think about riding again, and in those weeks, we managed to get the bike back together. There were several times I doubted we'd manage to pull it off, but in between the blood (literally), sweat (plenty) and tears (definitely felt like an idiot on more than one occasion), we got her back together. I was the first one to ride her after she was finished. |

| this is what happens when you try to motorcross it across a concrete median that is not flush with the surrounding ground. Of course, I wouldn't have had to try to do that if I hadn't come into the corner a bit too hot... | This is a side view. As you can see, the entire front of the bike is basically ripped off. After I quit sliding in the grass (just glad it wasn't asphalt...) I jumped up and was like, "where's my bike?" Then I turned around and the next words out of my mouth were, "oh, shit, Joe is going to kill me..." All this before I realized I had broken my collar bone and couldn't move my right arm... | |||||||

| This is the rear rim and tire. Not only did I manage to destroy the front end, but I had to try and see if I could do the same to the rear. Thankfully, there was no damage to the frame and only slight damage to the rear (the undertail survived without any damage), however, I did still have to get a new rear rim since I bent the hell out it. I also managed to scrape up the pipe (I was asked before I went out that night, if I wrecked to try and not damage the pipe), even though I tried to make it slide on the opposite side. One thing that isn't seen in the pics is the headers that I managed to make into an S shape with the radiator. Fortunately, it doesn't seem to have hurt the horsepower any. |

| This is the gas tank. I figured out some way to put a dent in the center of it without fracturing my pelvis (that I am aware of). I don't remember slamming into the tank that hard, but the tank says I did and I was pretty sore, although I had contributed that to something other than that. Guess not. | ||||||||
