WARPED TOUR 2001 - August 3 (Rounding First)
Remember how I mentioned my new friend LJ? Well, she hitched on the tour after its stop at Nissan Pavilion. I vaguely remember The Vandals asking me to do the same, but I declined because I had work the following two days. (I told you I was a dork!)Well, Wednesday (Virginia Beach) and Thursday (Pittsburgh) passed. I called LJ only to find out that she was having tons of fun. Jealous, I asked her if I could still hitch on if I caught up with the tour the next day. They were, after all, just 2 hours away - in Philadelphia. LJ put Dave Quackenbush on the phone, and I asked him if I could be on the list. He said yes. That was all it took.
Not wanting to drive, nor bother friends for a ride to Philly, I decided to take a Greyhound. In a mad rush, I packed my Triple Five Soul bag with all the basics. It was tricky. The bag needed to contain all the essentials for the next three days, but it needed to be light because I would be carrying it around everywhere.
Friday came. I woke up early and drove to Baltimore to finish packing. Nearly missing my 12:25 p.m. bus, I was relieved to be in Philadelphia at 2:30 p.m. With an hour to kill, I decided to walk the streets and grab a sandwich at McDonald's. At 3:30 p.m., I was on my way to Camden, NJ. It was a 10-minute ride, so I arrived promptly after boarding the connecting bus.
After a scorching half-mile walk to the Tweeter Center, I was glad to reach the venue safely. YAY! I checked for my name at the will-call window only to see that it had been crossed out. BOO!
You really think I would have turned around and gone back home? Would this be called LifeROX if I had done that??? So once again, life rocked. The lady in charge of tickets game me a freebie for helping her recover her air-blown passes. At the gate, the security guard somehow let me through will all my baggage (including a professional camera). See? It was meant to be.
Inside, I didn't have a VIP pass, so I walked to both the Vandals and *GC* tents to look for people I knew. No such luck. I also couldn't find Rick Thorne, nor LJ. Tired, I plastered myself beneath a tree right outside the gate to the tourbuses. After an hour, LJ called and was working on getting me a pass. Turns out, I didn't even need her help because, eventually, both Mike from Rehab and Dusty from *Good Charlotte* passed by and tried to help. Since *GC* still had to perform, I decided to hang out with Mike and Rehab.
We reached Rehab's tourbus and they allowed me to leave my stuff there for a while. Mike also lent me his pass so I could walk around and look for LJ. I was about to step out when D12 came running toward the bus and after Esham. They ran down four fences in the process. I waited until the cops came and cleared the area. It was weird. I witnessed the entire fight.
Soon enough, I found LJ and we spent the afternoon watching *Good Charlotte*, hanging out with Rehab, and seeing Kool Keith's set from the stage. At dusk, we got to know the members of Switched, a heavy metal band from Cleveland, Ohio. During the barbeque, we constantly walked back and forth from the grill to their van, all the while meeting people like Dryden and Ty (Alien Ant Farm), John J. (Vroom), Josh (Benji & Joel's older bro), Kevin (10 Times A Day), and others. The only yucky part of the night was the wealth of dirt and dust, which caused my arms to break out into hives.
At midnight, three lady friends of Switched were nice enough to give us a ride to the next venue. Unfortunately, we were following the band, who unknowingly drove 3.5 hours to reach a hotel that was only 20 miles away. Oh well. We arrived at the hotel at 3:30 a.m., and rented three rooms. Us girls were fortunate enough to get one with a jacuzzi.
Instead of sleeping, we spent a few more hours talking before finally passing out at 6:30 a.m. - only to be awakened at 9:30 a.m. by LJ saying, "You have 5 minutes to get ready. The band is about to leave."
...which brings us to DAY 3...
