Entry for July 28, 2006
Today is Friday. TGIF I am looking forward to spending a relaxing weekend doing absolutely NOTHING. The pictures from Kennywood sure show the kids having a great time. Last evening Charlie and I went to get the grout for the front entrance way. The house is sure looking nice. I can hardly wait until everything is done and in place. Charlie is sure moving along getting this done faster than I thought that he would. WOW in a few days it will be August. And, before we know it the kids will be back in school. Days sure seem to go by faster when you get older. I don't remember it being like this when I was a little kid. The summer just seemed to go on and on. The summers I spent in Gallitzin at either my Aunt Mary's or my Aunt Lena's are memories that I hope I will keep forever. When I was under I would stay at my Aunt Mary's and play with the kids that lived around her. When I got older I stayed at my Aunt Lena's and would do things with my cousins Janet and Judy. They owned a grocery store and I would get to help pack bags. They would let me run the checks on the old calculator in my Unlce Paris's office. I loved going there. Then in the evening we would go to the movies and get something at the soda fountain. Do you remember going to a "soda fountain"? What special times!!!! Back in Youngstown, a group of us kids would go to Webber's drug store. They had a soda fountain and we would get cherry cokes for 25 cents. A candy bar was a nickel and the extra extra large size was ten cents. Memories....that's what makes our lives so special. Growing up on the west side of Youngstown was fun. We could walk to the Grant's movie theater on Mahoning Avenue. Spend all of Sunday afternoon in the theater watching a double feature. I remember the first time the circus came to town and was on Meridian Road. The whole circus came up Mahoning Avenue. All the participants would walk or ride and do acts. What I experienced growing up neither my children or grandchildren will experience. The cost now is so much more. Good thing there is movies 8. Atleast you can see a movie for a dollar. We were going to take Charley and Hunter to a movie last weekend but it would cost $16.00 for Charlie and I and $11.00 for Charley and Hunter. We went bowling instead for $18.00 and had a really good time. With the cost of gas getting so much more expensive, we have to find things to do closer to home. What a bummer.
