August 9, 2007- John McCain in town
In Ann Arbor that is. He's doing a grassroots meeting with around 50 or so activists. He's supposed to be very effective in this type of environment. Last month I was talking to one of his workers at the GOP Lincoln Day dinner about why I wasn't a McCain supporter. I had mentioned immigration, McCain-Feingold, and those nasty things he said about social conservatives. The response was that the senator believed he was in DC to make the tough choice. Fair enough, I thought at the time. On reflection, though, this is completely misguided. McCain and every other politician is in office to make the RIGHT decision. And John, unfortunately, is on the wrong side of issues much too often. I feel badly about this, since by nature I should be a McCain supporter, having shared some airspace and part of a war once upon a time while serving Attack Carrier Striking Forces, Seventh Fleet in 1967. 2007-08-09 17:46:01 GMT
