Opening arguments began on Thursday February 5th, 2009. The prosecutor then called his first witnesses. The prosecutor continued calling his witnesses on Friday. The prosecutor is expected to call witnesses on, Monday the 9th, Wednesday the 11th and finish on Friday the 13th.
In addition to the February 12th holiday, {Lincolns Birthday} the judge plans not to run the trial during the week of the 16th. The defense stated he needs one day for the calling of his witnesses and it looks like this will happen on Monday February 23rd. It appears that closing arguments will happen the week of the 23rd and it will then be given to the jury.

The defenses opening argument were, Manuel Olivera murdered Mary Quigley. Manual told one of his prison buddies before he died. Richard was 5'1" and weighed 80 pounds in 1977 and Mary could have easily overpowered him.
