A Sweet Revenge
I feel relieve after we have the opportunity to get even with event. Yesterday, Vincent Lazatin on behalf of the International CSOs Coalition delivered our statement in the plenary of CoSP on UNCAC. He asked the Conference to stand up and spent a minute of silent for the victim of corruption, and all people who have sacrificed their life for fighting corruption.
The coalition was holding a side event on the protection of the whistle blower in corruption cases. Indonesia is clearly doesn’t have adequate protection for the whistle blower. The latest case involving the whistle blower of Asian Agri tax embezzlement confirmed our allegation of corrupt Indonesian judiciary system. The state is not only failed to protect the whistle blower, but also put him in jail for 11 years for forgery and stealing the company money. While more than USD 100million tax embezzlement by the company is going nowhere. The judiciary even went further. It breaks the record of appeal cases. The higher court sentenced Vincentius Amin Sutanto, the whistle blower, only after a week of his case was received. In normal time, it would take years before appeal proceeding is taking place. However, it doesn’t show efficiency of the judiciary. It only confirms Asian Agri power reached far into the judiciary system.
Fighting corruption in Indonesia is still along way to go.
