News happens fast, so today is going to be a double post day.
After months of rumors, the Walt Disney Company has allocated $1.1 billion to renovate Disney’s California Adventure. DCA was the brainchild of the late 1990’s Walt Disney Company that often under-funded maintenance of its California theme park. DCA had a lot of ambition behind, but little cash due to mismanagement, providing more planning into shopping than attractions. Since it opened in 2001, the park has underperformed.
I first went to California Adventure months after it opened. Now, Soarin’ over California is one of my personal favorites and an amazing experience. I would highly recommend anyone to go to the attraction in California and EPCOT. Grizzy Peak Run is a great ride. “California Screaming” is always entertaining. With that said, I would say the park was in need of an overhaul. The park just had too few attractions. “Superstar Limo” was simply horrible. Outside the 3 listed attractions and the attractions that you can find at Walt Disney World in Florida (Tower of Terror, Muppets, Bugs, etc.), the park had little to offer. It was more about shopping than fun.
In 2001, you had to purchase a second days pass, if you wanted to visit Disneyland and California Adventure in the same day. Luckily, they remedied that with Park Hoppers.
I went to the park on two other trips and noticed mild improvements. The park was a place for a couple of hours to sample other non-Magic Kingdom attractions. Because it is just across the way, it is much more convenient to get Magic Kingdom and non-Magic Kingdom thrills in the same day than Disney World.
Apparently, the Walt Disney Company has gotten the message that the original California Adventure was under-funded and will now spend the money to make this park into the experience it should have been. Well done!
