This blog is to record and share my impressions and experiences with starting and running a reading program for children and dogs in Wake County, NC. The program is called See Spot Read, and its goal is to make reading fun by encouraging kids to read to dogs in a library setting.
Many of these types of programs already exist around the country, and I wanted to start something similar here in Wake County in the library system and anywhere else that provides services to children.
After posting on a few dog-related Yahoo groups and other email lists, it became clear that there was a real interest in this program and that many people with therapy dogs wanted to participate. Hence, the creation of See Spot Read (
www.seespotread.com) and this blog.
I hope that by sharing my experience with starting and running this program that others will be encouraged to do the same and help share a love of reading through the interaction of children with therapy dogs.
