Naeemah & Vakantath | Hatching

Naeemah shifted on the Sands with the rest of the candidates as the eggs rocked gently. She stood with the other three queen candidates a bit apart from the others and somehow felt as removed from the whole experience as she did from the rest of the Candidates. Everything was happening like it was some dream, which was what Naeemah almost believed it was; a dream, too good to be true. Even though she'd been trained for this for the past month, the fact that she was now standing here, waiting for a dragon who could be her lifemate to hatch was hard to believe. Kai was supposed to have been her lifemate, and now she was gone.

A long crack appeared down the front of one of the eggs, followed quickly by a brown nose and then the first hatchling of the Hatching. Naeemah watched jealously as he headed for Ahote, hungering for the look in Ahote's eyes as he met his dragon and wondering if she'd wear that same look by the end of the day.

The Hatching lost its dreamlike quality after Ah'te and Klassenth left the Sands. Before she knew it, she and the other three queen candidates were the only candidates on the Sands and the huge golden egg was the only egg left. It rocked slowly and Naeemah didn't even dare to breath into the tense silence that settled over the Sands.

There was a crack and then a golden head appeared, followed by a dainty gold body. The gold shook herself and picked a peice of shell away and the started down towards Naeemah and the candidates. As she had been told to, Naeemah focused all her attentions on the little queen, sending out feelings of love and warmth and belonging. But she knew this wasn't her queen even as she did. The gold turned back as the thought crossed Naeemah's mind and Naeemah suddenly worried that this might have been her gold, but she'd scared her away.

Gasps from the crowd broke Naeemah's concentration and she when she tore her gaze away from the gold she saw a second, smaller gold join the first. The twins walked down towards the candidates together, well aware of how rare they were. Naeemah's gaze was drawn to the second queen as the pair inspected the candidates. Gently swirling rainbow eyes met and held her gaze. I don't mind that you were Kai's, but you are mine now, Vakantath told her with a soft warble.

And you are mine, Naeemah replied as she rubbed the little dragon's jaw.

Vakantath twisted her neck to gaze at her twin as she chose Dalila. I bet you didn't expect two of us, the gold asked with what Naeemah guessed was a grin.

"I didn't expect twins Vakantath but it was a good suprise," she replied with a grin of her own. She couldn't stop smiling. She doubted she ever would as long as she had Vakantath.

You'll look pretty stupid if you smile until you die, Vakantath told her with a snort as they walked off the Sands.
