Naeemah | Pre-search
By the time Naeemah and Kiy arrived at the wreckage most of the passengers had been pulled from the wreckage either by wild dolphins or the teams of trained ones.
"Kiy, we really don't need to be here," Naeemah sighed. "They've got it under control without us. We'll only be a nuisance."
Kiy would have given in to her partner and left then, but a woman, being carried to shore by a dolphin and his partner, gave a hysterical scream. "My baby! My baby is trapped under there!"
That was all the dolphin needed to hear. Telling Naeemah to grab hold, she dove down, a trail of bubbles marking her path. The wreck was not resting on the bottom yet so it was easy for Kiy to find her way in. Naeemah checked to make sure she had plenty of oxygen in her tank and followed her dolphin.
Kiy made a very thorough search of the ship, making clicking noises whose meaning Naeemah could only guess. It was taking to long, Naeemah realized sadly, any survivor would have drowned by now.
Moving towards the still searching dolphin, Naeemah made the hand signal to return to the surface. Kiy signaled no and flitted back into the wreckage.
As she followed Kiy, intending to order her to the surface, Naeemah saw why the dolphin refused to leave: a small boy was trapped on the submerged deck, half his body wedged under a heavy looking beam.
Kiy made clicking sounds that Naeemah knew to be smug as she tried to move the beam away from her find. Naeemah tried and found that the beam was stuck firmly in place. It took the combined efforts of human and dolphin, but the boy was finally freed.
Naeemah examened the boy grimly. Her fingers found a fluttering pulse, though his lips were turning a pale bluish color. The surface was not far, so, before she could regret doing it, Naeemah ripped off her oxygen mask and strapped it onto the boy. His chest jerked up as air was let back into his lungs, but after a few more jerks he began to breath normally.
Kiy, at this point, was frantic with worry over her partner. She nudged at Naeemah impatiently and then started to the surface, only to shoot back down angrily when Naeemah didn't follow. Naeemah made the signal to return, that she she would be along soon, but Kiy refused to leave.
With the boy breathing easily, Naeemah felt confident enough to get him back to the surface. Only when she looked towards the surface, it seemed as black as the deeps. She shook her head, trying to clear away the faintness she knew was a result of being under without her oxygen tank.
Desperately, Naeemah shoved the boy and her oxygen tank onto Kiy's back, at least, she hoped it was Kiy's back, she couldn't tell and her entire mind was needed to hold off unconciousness, and signaled weakly for the dolphin to go to the surface.
Kiy gave a squeal of annoyance and tried to get her partner to grab onto her fin, but Naeemah was too far gone. She could barely move her hand or the darkness would close in on her. It would be so easy just to breathe... to allow the water to fill her lungs and peacefully allow it to take her life... so easy, because she was so tired.
Forgetting the boy for the moment, Kiy pushed at Naeemah hard, sending the dolphineer up a few feet. The impact made Naeemah loose her concentration and the darkness rushed in. She had a faint feeling that she was taking a breath but, before she could tell if she actually had, she slipped into unconciousness.
Kiy was also running out of oxygen, and she now found herself with two people to rescue. She powered towards the surface, pushing Naeemah's limp body with her. She broke the surface triumphantly - and was almost immediatly killed as the ship leaned over on its side and came crashing down. Naeemah, still unconcious, was propelled a little ways away by the waves the sinking ship made.
