There were many Humes in Virginia living in Greene, Rockbridge, Henrico, Ohio, Nicholas, Augusta, Rockingham and Orange Counties, and it is hard to identify individuals and their families. The only Hume (without the "s" ) in the records of land patents in MO. that I can positively identify as part of this family is Eliza Stuart Gilmore, William's widow. While others in the family seem to use either Hume or Humes, Eliza is consistantly a Hume. Because she was literate, it was apparently her choice, rather than a mis-spelling by clerks.
