| In 1883, Olof and Agnes Edman and four children immigrated from Sweden to America The family settled first in Slayton, in the southern part of Minnesota, but later moved to Clarissa in Northern Minnesota, where another child was born. One daughter, nine year old Karin Edman, had been left behind in Sweden. By 1980, contact with Karin's descendants had been lost, but there was always concern about how and where they were, and if they knew about their family in America. This report on our Swedish ancestry is from the files of a granddaughter of Olof and Agnes, Keena Robbins Kartak, who instilled a pride in Swedish ancestry in all of her children. When Keena died in 1983, she left behind her genealogy reports and notes, and until recently, the information we had was based soley on these files. Somehow, we never quite made the electronic jump across the ocean to Swedish websites and genealogists in that country. However, in November 2001, through the persistant searching for "lost cousins in America" by one of Karin's descendants who lives in Stockholm, we were found! The information she was able to provide will be continually added to our report. But first, meet Sten of Sweden from Keena's files, one of our early ancestors. The story continues to Olaf Edmon and Agnis Andersdatter and their children in America . . . and Karin's family in Sweden. Note: In Keena's files, her grandfather's name is given as OLAF EDMON. That spelling of the family name was used by all of Kristina's children and was given as a middle name to Jerry, Keena's second son. Until recently, we didn't realize it was an alteration of the original EDMAN, and probably came about by someone's careless handwriting. NOTE:It's been brought to our attention that the names of geographic locations in our report are not written correctly, but are akin to "Seattle, Arizona", or "Chicago, Alabama." In other words, they don't make sense! Also, we have not written the names of daughters correctly with the name of the father's name + dotter, instead of the father's name + son. As time allows, the necessary corrections will be made. When her parents left, only one grandparent --Karin Olafsdatter, age 81--was still alive, and didn't die until 1889, six years later.
