Elijah may have been born around 1760.
He was living in Montgomery Co., KY, in 1800, but died soon after.
His widow moved to live near her brother in Nicholas Co., KY.
Elijah had a daughter,
Hester, b. 1 Mar. 1785 (my ancestor), and also (some probable):
Hannah, Ephraim, Alexander, John, James, and Elijah.
Ephraim Adams who seems to be a son of Elijah and Hannah (Blair)
Adams was born about 1789 in Pennsylvania and died after 1860,
when in Rock Island County, Illinois.
He married Mary Riley in 1813 in Nicholas County, Kentucky,
then later moved to Boone County, Indiana.
My ancestor Hester (Adams) McKee, proved to be the daughter of
Elijah and Hannah Adams, named a son Ephraim A. McKee.
That would be the brother of my gr-grandfather,
Moses B. Adams.
Parents were John Adams and Susanna Hart;
his were Major Robert Adams
(of Westmoreland Co. militia) and Elizabeth Chambers.
Major Robert's grandfather was the immigrant,

my great grandfather was George Adams who married
Mabel Wells from Maryland around 1894.
They then came across the plains and settled in Pendleton Oregon where they were
sheep ranchers.

No real additional headway yet. I have begun to believe that the
Bedford County Adams are not neccessarily connected to the John Adams of
Maryland...still can be, but it seems the Robert Adams I thought may be
brother to Elijah may not be a brother. Still, though, I think they can
be connected as Elijah's father (or possibly a brother) is most likely
the Samuel Adams that died 1781-2, and Robert Adams' father is also a
Samuel.
But worse than that I was contacted by a descendent of Elijah Adams
and Hannah Blair who says this Elijah (mine) is not the son of Elijah
and Hannah in Bedford County....that this Elijah (son of old Elijah) was
still in Bedford County in 1836. Don't know if he is correct or not...I
don't know how he ascertained the Elijah in 1836 as son of Elijah and
Hannah instead of a grandson through one of the other sons. He did say
my Elijah is from Bedford, however. So that puts me back one notch in
this whole puzzle. Gotta now find proof as to where my Elijah fits.

mentioned that Hannah, the widow of Elijah,
went to Ohio and lived with one of her children.
I currently have 134 descendants of Elijah S. and Eva (Griffith) Adams. Elijah
was born 1781 in Indiana Co., Pennsylvania and moved before 1820 to Wayne Co.,
Ohio where they are both buried in Congress Twp. It was their descendants
that later moved to Elkhart Co., Indiana etc. It would really help if Elijah
S. would have been mentioned in the will of Elijah Adams d. 1798.

There is no reason to connect Elijah Adams (d. 1798 Bedford Co., PA)
with the John Adams of New Jersey (born Antrim).
This John apparently had a son Samuel who
went to Westmoreland Co., PA,
but there is no reason to connect them with the Bedford County
bunch.
The Elijah Adams who died in 1863 in Bedford was born around
1773, not 1752. He may be the
Elijah who was the son of Elijah (d. 1798),
but I tend to think not, as this Elijah was a merchant
and most likely would have been involved in the
administration of the elder Elijah's will---but he
was not. This probably indicates that Elijah's
son Elijah lived elsewhere (as did his son Robert).
Instead, a son-in-law Alexander McGregor, who did live nearby, was an executor.
Curiously, the Joseph Adams of Chester Co., PA,
I'm familiar with, as that family intermarried
with some another unrelated family I'm
interested in, but I don't think he had any connection
to the Bedford County Adams.

John Adams, emigrant to USA from County Antrim, Ireland,
left Will in Somerset County, NJ in 1752 naming sons
Matthew, William, James and Samuel.
Samuel moved to Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania,
and had at least two sons--Robert and Samuel Jr.
Does anyone know if Samuel had more children.
Also names of children of Matthew, William and James Adams.
I descend from Elijah Adams (probably born early 1740s)
who resided in Bedford County, Pennsylvania.
In 1782 he was appointed guardian of Archibald Adams,
son of Samuel Adams, deceased.
I am trying to find a connection (if one exists)
with my Elijah and the sons of this John Adams, emigrant.
Elijah's oldest son was named Robert,
which was a common name in family of Samuel Adams Sr...a
nd Samuel's son Robert had a son named Robert who named his son Elijah.
I believe a connection exists, but....
So if anyone can give names consisting of the first two generations of this John Adams

Tom, if John Adams's will didn't mention an Elijah,
I think that is proof right there that he wasn't his father.
Elijah Adams (d. 1798 Bedford Co., PA) appears to have had brothers
Samuel (d. 1781 Bedford Co., PA),
Solomon, and
Robert (d. 7 Oct. 1824 St. Clair Twp., Bedford Co., PA),
and a sister Rachel.
This Adams familly was said in 1880 to be of English origin,
while in another source, it was said that they came from Berks Co, PA.
But our task is to identify a different Elijah Adams, who went to Kentucky.
Since he married Hannah Blair, from Bedford Co., PA,
he must have been related to the above family.

Tom. I pretty much have the same info you have.
have a John Adams from Antrim,
Ireland with all of the sons you mentioned.
The only children I have listed from all of the brothers
are for Samuel D. Adams, and they are
Major Robert Adams b. 1742 and
Samuel Jr. I can give you descendents from
Major Robert adams but that is about it.

Robert Adams, son of Samuel (son of John) was born about 1743
probably in New Jersey.
He went to Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania,
and married Elizabeth Chambers.
He died there in 1806.
This Robert had a son Robert (1769-1850) who went to Ohio.
Elijah Adams (my ancestor who may, or may not, be a son of Samuel,
had a son Robert that I only know of by being first named
in the Will of Elijah Adams (1799-Bedford Co., Pa)
and don't know anything else about him,
but assume he may be a Robert Adams buying land 1817 Bedford County (
witnessed by his possible sons John and Elijah),
and also probably the Robert Adams that died 1822 in Bedford County.
As to the other sons of John (Matthew, William and James)
I know nothing of them other than their names from John's Will
in December 1752 Somerset Co., New Jersey.
If any of them went to Virginia (or descendents) I don't know.
I am trying to connect my Elijah to this family (or find proof he does not connect).
All I know of his kin for positive other than his children is that
in 1782 in Bedford County, PA, he was chosen by Archibald Adams to be his guardian,
and that Archibald is son of a Samuel Adams who died about that time in Bedford County.

have a WILLIAM ADAMS born 1763 came to USA from Ireland also,
but was of English descent, 2nd cousin to Pres.
John. William had a son, JOHN, but he was born 1799.
William had a brother SAMUEL also JOHN and sister ANN. WILLIAM's
parents were GEORGE ADAMS and JEANNETTE PORTER.
William died Sept. 1815, was in War of 1812,
married 1788 to MARY ELIZ. HAWTHORNE.

I am so glad to connect with a cousin! Yes, I had Carrie living in Taft, CA., but had her husband's name as Loeb. I have no idea how I got it, except through the old letters. Thanks for the Kingsley info! As for the Adamses, I have back to Robert Adams, who bought 50 acres in Monaghan Twp., York Co., PA in 1750. He may have been a Presbyterian. He moved to Bedford Twp., Bedford Co., PA about 1760. His wife's name was Jane UNK, and his children included Elijah, Robert, Solomon, Samuel, and Rachel. The last three were the first white settlers of Johnstown, PA, and Solomon escaped with Samuel's and Rachel's children during an Indian raid in which the other adults were killed. Just outside of Johnstown is a road called Solomon's Run after the event. We are descended from Elijah, who was a Quaker (probably married a Quaker.) He lived in Bedford, PA, and was listed in the 1775 Militia Roll, but paid a fine instead of serving, which usually indicated they were Quakers. He moved back to York Co. about 1783. Elijah's wife was Hannah Blair, and he had a son, Robert, who was our Alexander's father. Robert was b. 1753, d. 1810, and his wife's name was Keziah Blair. Had Alexander, b. 1786, and Thomas, b. 6/19/1798.
Alexander was a circuit rider for the Methodist Church. His son from his first wife Esther, Matthew Shields Adams, was an entrepreneur in the early oil days, and owned oil wells and a coal processing plant called Maple Furnace. He was also an "unofficial" minister who began a church at Maple Furnace that was quite successful. We think he sold his oil holdings to Rockefeller, probably forced to do so. Elijah may have been born around 1760.
He was living in Montgomery Co., KY, in 1800, but died soon after.
His widow moved to live near her brother in Nicholas Co., KY.
Elijah had a daughter, Hester, b. 1 Mar. 1785 (my ancestor), and also (some probable):
Hannah, Ephraim, Alexander, John, James, and Elijah.
Ephraim Adams who seems to be a son of Elijah and Hannah (Blair) Adams was
born about 1789 in Pennsylvania and died after 1860, when in Rock Island County, Illinois.
He married Mary Riley in 1813 in Nicholas County, Kentucky,
then later moved to Boone County, Indiana.
My ancestor Hester (Adams) McKee, proved to be the daughter of Elijah and Hannah Adams,
named a son Ephraim A. McKee.
That would be the brother of my gr-grandfather,
Moses B. Adams. Parents were John Adams and Susanna Hart;
his were Major Robert Adams (of Westmoreland Co. militia)
and Elizabeth Chambers. Major Robert's grandfather was the immigrant,
John Adams of Bedminster, Somerset Co., N.J.

Mabel Wells from Maryland around 1894. They then came across the plains
