Important tips for families who plan to leave their little ones with a nanny.
By: Angela Keedley

Choosing a nanny is a very important part of parenthood. Especially if both parents work. But you can't simply pick anyone to leave your children with, this is a guide to choosing the right nanny for your family. Where to start and who to pick.

Nanny Service
It's incredibly easy to pick up that phone, ring up a nanny and know your child is safe. But is your child really safe? Not knowing the stranger who is going to care for your child is not a good feeling.

I felt that the nannies who worked at the nanny service where all reliable, until after I hired one in particular. I would come home and my daughter (just a toddler) would be fine and dandy. So I continued using this nanny. After my daughter became a child, she begin to say that the nanny was mean and evil. I of course thought this was typical childhood chatter. What child honestly likes their nanny? After a while of having this nanny, I had the day off and decided to stay home, but I wanted to relax so I had the nanny just do some chores around the house. Finally I realized what my daughter meant by evil and mean. The nanny insulted me and then set my home on fire because she forgot something that was cooking on the stove. This was the nannies last day at work.

In conclusion, just because the nanny works for the nanny service don't think she is a good nanny. A good idea would be to call up the nanny service and when they send over a nanny make sure the entire family is there to meet the nanny and do a test day with them.

See how the nanny interacts with your family and if you and your children get on well with the nanny. If you think she is fit for the job, continue the service.

Freelance Nannies
A freelance nanny is a nanny that does not work for a nanny service. The nanny lives in your home for as long as you need her and moves out when she pleases. She of course takes care of your children though.

Hiring a freelance nanny is more difficult than from a nanny service. There are tons of lies that a freelance nanny can tell, while a Nanny Service keeps tabs on all their nannies and can even tell you if they have any criminal history. Take caution in hiring a freelance nanny. Make sure you know them fairly well before inviting them to live in your home and be unsupervised with your children. You don't have any idea how often freelance nannies kidnap or abuse children due to the parents being oblivious to the nannies true nature and past criminal record. Take caution and ask lots of questions.

Nannies
In all truths I think nannies are wonderful, I am so happy I get to raise my daughter while doing what I love as well. Just be cautious and careful and soon enough your nanny will be part of the family.
