With the name of "PUKA PUNKU" (Red Door), a group of young
students of the National school of Fine Arts decides to found on 1971 an
atelier. The group sense, the community of interests, an identity in the
goals, the fervent desire of friendly criticism but demanding, is the
foundations of this idea not only challenging but new too.
In spite of the skepticism that causes these initiatives frequently, "Puka
Punku" was affirmed such a coherent work group, where the expressive
plurality of its members is pronounced individually under the vigilant eye
of others.
The personal career of each member is related intimately to the destiny of
the group and in spite of to have reached in greater or smaller degree
notoriety and success. They are sharing a solid construction of friendship
and ideals. With a deep desire to take the personages from the Andean
Peruvian and to shape in the linen cloth the severe gesture or it cheers,
innocence or the suffering, resorting sometimes to significant objects in
revelation of a way, a life style.
Adrian Airaldi has chosen the way of the absolute fidelity to "which
the eye sees" resorting to the identical transcription of the chromatic
values that their same personages choose spontaneously.
Surpassed today engraver, excellent painter from its beginnings, fulfilling
at the moment a cycle of studies in Paris -where is scholar by the France
Government- Miguel Espinoza demonstrates to us that next to its rare
technique quality, the high-priority thing in its visual preoccupation is
the light and its complex pictorial treatment.
More grasped to their native landscape, delighting in rustic “plazuelas” or
in sceneries of popular parties, David Meléndez transmits us a full
chromatic enjoyment of life.
Rafael Llaque has maybe been the most variable.
For who have followed their
evolution sincerely the current work it demonstrates us that we didn't make
a mistake: their peculiar vision of the environment is renewed in a strange
magic that is transmitted us by the stranger atmosphere of its squares,
active and participant painting, it is his a vigorous plastic form joined to
a palette that becomes more and more economic, without discarding contrast
audacities.
Antonio Pimentel is without a doubt one of the most talented inside the
group of surrealist youths that you have made its appearance in the last
years. Magic world where strange and beautiful characters inhabit,
absolutely family other people's landscapes in their impact, exceptional
occupation, they are the characteristics of the plastic language that he
goes configuring as his.
Julio Quispe, known by his pseudonym "Quispejo", knows the flattery of the
success from the beginning of his race. Their visions often oppressive but
fitted within a personal style are already familiar to the Peruvian public.
Quispejo follows the tradition of great painters of yesterday incorporating
to feel different, where the fragmentation line is symbols for the
understanding of a deeply human message.
Guzman Ramos is an exceptional designer. Their delicate lines, the fine
invoice of their works always reflecting landscapes and nostalgic portals,
they evidence a sensitive talent, an attentive eye. In their paintings the
plants you they are different; the search of elements that they support its
indication toward the symbols that interest him incites to new experiences
that already discard the traditional easel square and that rather they are
interested in the attitude like component element of the definitive work.

Guzman, Rafael, Julio and Antonio. Lima – May 2004.
As it can be appraised, the manifest individuality in the election of each
via expressive does of the artists who integrate "Puka Punku" a good example
of the work in common with freedom criterion.
