| To teach whoever he or she is. |
| "We are betrayed!" These days, CityU was full of angry voices. The above one is one of them. Recently, the president of CityU claimed the cancelation of 13 AD programs in 2004 because of the resourses cut by government. However, the decision was made without teachers ,students, and some of the related departments' consents, which incited their dissatisfying of this unfair resolution. Here, i dare to say the event has nothing to do with me or to other non-means AD program students. So far as i know, our program shouldn't be cancelled because the non-means AD programs cost nothing to CITYU. According to the source, the total cost of a non-means AD program student is around $90,000 while the school fee of a student of non-means AD program is $45,000 a year. After calculation, you can see a non-means AD program costs her nothing in essence. Also, i must say, "we are not very welcomed by students at MainCamp." Even when both of us are from AD programs, they take us as second class. Why do i have to give help? More than that, the cancellation of AD programs has no adverse effect to me!! Some said the cancellation may cause unfavorable impression to outsiders who might think the quality of cityu's AD program students would decline gradually. However, as i know, the resources CityU put on nowadays' AD students are not deducted. How the quality of AD students become lower than before or AD students from other universities? Moreover, the quality of a student is not come from the university, but from ourselves. Let's have an example, the language ability of some graduates from degree program may probably be worse than mine!(i swear because i've met them once.) This is what i call the self value. If you equip yourself well, i'm sure your quality, camparing with others, is more than satisfactory. With pity, i'm going to say the action CityU take is against what we Chinese call "еL". When going into the corrider enroute from Festival Walk to CityU, you see widows on the two sides. Taking a slow walk in the corrider, paying attention to the widows, you may see there are many famous sentences in each of them. Surprisingly, at the end of the corrider towards CityU, there's a sentence, "еL", on the right hand side. Yesterday, when i passed through that corrider, glancing at that window, a feeling of satire emerged in my mind. the meaning of that sentence is "to teach whoever he or she is". However, like what i said, today's cancellation of 13 AD programs is incommensurate to that sentence. Education then cannot spread wide, only if you are well off to afford the non-means AD programs. Talking about this issue, i believe there's no one knows and understands the detail and the fact more than the top authorities of CityU, especially our President, Mr. Cheung. i, as a passer-by, should stand by neither side. But i have to say that the origin of this problem should be the government. In fact, resources on education shouldn't be cut even though we are undergoing a deficit. Education is an important issue which may affects the nature of the community in the long run. Children, in future, are the leaders in Hong Kong. The quality of these leaders are determined by the effort they make as well as the enviroment and chances the government provides. Without government's positive actions towards education, low achievement is resulted from no matter how hard the children work. Last but not least, when taking any actions, authorities should look before it leaps.... |
