| Liberia, is the oldest independent black nation in Africa and the second oldest in the world. Only Haiti is older. Liberia became independent more than 110 years before any other country in tropical Africa. It was founded in 1822 by an American charitable society to provide a home for freed black slaves from America. Monrovia is Liberia's capital city and largest. |
