| Jordan, is an Arab kingdom near the eastern end of the Mediterranean Sea. The River Jordan divides the country into two parts--the east bank and the west bank. Since the Arab-Israeli war of 1967, Israel has controlled the west bank, where about a fourth of Jordan's population lives. Amman is the capital and largest city. |
