| Bosnia & Herzegovina is one of the six republics of Yugoslavia. The republic consists of two regions. Bosnia, the northern part, is a mountainous land covered with thick forests. Herzegovina, the southern part, is composed largely of rocky hills and flat farmland. Slovenia and Croatia both declared independence in 1991, and Bosnia & Herzegovina followed in February 1992. Sarajevo is the capital of Bosnia & Herzegovina. |
