In Latvia the boardhockey was plaied in Russian version a long time, based on the force and with little interfernce among figurines. The first tournament I know was at 1978.; at 1980 some plaiers achieved serious level. They were mostly schoolboys of 49.school of Riga (Aldis Miesnieks, Maris Kalnins, Egils Belsevics, Ilgvars Pavlovskis, Janis Elsbergs) or their relatives (Klavs Elsbergs, Maris Kozlovskis, Karlis Belsevics). At 1981 a tournament series "Favorits-81" was organized, winned by my modast person :)
At 1982. the crisis beginned: many plaiers ended the school and no had a time for serious playing. None serious tornament happens much years. the players didn't ended to play but the level didn't growes.
A new wind began to blow at 1998., when the first public series was organized, winned by Janis Kirsis. At 1999. Martins Zirnis won similar series.
The official organizations was founded at the end of 1999.; after it the boardhockey occupies a constant place among others sports in Latvia.
My own results aren't great: I don't like trainings and prefer the play only without a work. However, the old experience allows me to keep a place about 20. in Latvian rating. Greatest success at last time: 2. place among Latvian veterans (over 35) and two 3. places in teams championship of Riga (am a captain of "The black knights"). My style - quick but rarely precise shot and an attack to the back-jumping puck. It create much strange goals called "Belsevics"as a synonym of unmerited luck. The majority of players prefers more intellectual style.
