| My grandmother started this project with some of her quilting friends about 6 years ago. They would meet a couple of times a month and enjoy the hobby of quilting. My grandmother was approached by a woman who ran one of the local shelters and she asked if they would consider donating some of their extra quilts to the shelter! The shelter was often on blankets for the residents and they did not always have enough to go around! My grandmother and her friends were more than happy to do what they could to help! This is how Quilts for Homeless got started! Since then the group has grown in size to include some of my aunts, cousins, parishioners at our church, as well as myself! We try to meet once or twice a week to work on the quilts! We now work on them all year round! We truly enjoy the chance to get together and visit with each other(no kids and no hubby!) and work on a great cause! We still share our quilts with the first shelter, but we also help many other shelters in our area now! |
