Classes
We are happy to offer the following classes this winter/spring.  We have offered day classes as well as night and Saturday classes.  If you find a class that you would love to take and the times offered do not work for you please tell us.  We will make every effort to schedule another class for you.  Sign up at the store or through the web site.  Classes must be paid in advance and credit will be given for any class that must be rescheduled or canceled.  Samples for all of the classes are on display at the store.  Supply lists will be handed out when you register.  A 10% discount will be given for all books, patterns and class supplies purchased on the day you register for classes.   If you are attending an all day class please bring a sack lunch.  If you are coming to a night class directly from work you are also welcome to bring a sack lunch.  We'll furnish coffee or tea.  We have scheduled some classes free of charge as a special thank you to our customers.  We hope you will take advantage of them.
 

Accent Camp Pillow Sham
This beautiful oak and acorn sham will look great on your chair or couch or on your bed with the great northwoods quilts we are all making.  Expect many "oohs and ahh's when you bring this home.  You cam make one or make two to compliment each other.  Book required.  Jeanne will teach this class from 10-3 on February 9, March 22 or April 5.  This is a free class if supplies are purchased from the store, otherwise the class is $25.00.
Block of the Month
We'll be happy to help you through any of the block of the month series we have available.  Just stop in and we'll  schedule a session or two just for you.  This is a free service.
Barb's Got A Brand New Bag!
Barb will be teaching a brand new bag pattern.  It will be done in her signature primitive style.  Class is March 20 or May 8 from 10-3.  Cost is $20.00 plus the pattern.
Basket of Flowers Appliqué
This hand appliqué pillow top project will teach you the basic skills of needle turn appliqué.  We will use the book Easy Floral Appliqué Patterns by Eula Mae Long for this class.  If desired this class can be continued on future dates as we branch into a Baltimore Album style quilt from this same book.  Christine will instruct on January 30, February 15 or May 14 from 10-3.  Class fee is $20.00 plus the purchase of the book.
Come In and Sew with the Staff days
Come in and sew days will be scheduled as requested by you.  We will be able to give you free assistance with the projects that you have purchased from the store.  You may bring your machine and sew in one of the classrooms.  Store employees will be available to answer your questions.  Call the store to sign up.
Dreamy Little Dresden
This little Dresden plate is so easy.  You've only dreamed of putting one together so fast.  It is sewn using invisible machine appliqué.  There are no points to worry about turning under.  A button for the center makes this even faster.  Linda is the teacher and the class runs from 10-3:30 on Tuesday, March 16 or May 18.  $25.00 class fee.
Everybody Loves Table Runners
This one is no exception.  This classic will enhance your table whether it is antique or traditional.  We ignored  the colors on the pattern and chose some we are more familiar with in plaids and homespun's.  This class will be taught by Jeanne on February 23, March 11 or April 20 from 10-3.  Fee is $20.00 plus the pattern or free if materials are purchased at the store.
Flying Geese Quilt In A Day
Haven't you always liked the look of this pattern?  This quick pieced Flying Geese quilt is based on Eleanor Burns method.  You can assemble a full size quilt top in a day.  Christine will teach it on January 17, February 13 or 21 or May 12 from 10-3.    Class fee is $20.00 plus the cost of book and templates.
Fruit/Vegetable Pincushions
Chris Karmen will teach this class and you will have a choice of making a strawberry, pear, tomato, eggplant or pineapple.  Create one or all of them as all patterns are included.  They are done in hand dyed wool using embroidery and hand appliqué techniques.  Bases can be antique bobbins, candlesticks, door knobs or anything heavy enough to support the cushion.  Cushions could also be weighted.   Class fee is $35.  and dates are February 27, March 12, April 16 or May 21 from 10-2.
Half A Goose Table Runner
Simple strips and half geese blocks will make this the fastest table runner you have ever made AND it's reversible so you can do two holidays or seasons at once.   It's also pre quilted as you sew.  A great gift idea... perhaps Mothers Day or Easter. Linda is the teacher on February 17 from 10-3:30.  Class costs $25.00
Hare Raising Wall Hanging
Make these three cute cabbage bunnies in a garden for spring.  This class will be taught by Jeanne on March 24 and April 2 from 10-3.  Cost is $20. or free if supplies are purchased from the store.
Hearts and Stars
This small quilt/table topper uses turned invisible mock hand appliqué and some basic sewing techniques to make your heart and stars.  It takes a little more time than the fused raw edge appliqué seen everywhere today but the finished look is worth it.  Linda teaches on February 3 from 10-3:30.  Class fee is $25.00.
Hookers Gathering
This is an informal free all day get together for any hookers.  Bring your own project and a sack lunch.  Come as early as you like and stay as long as you wish.  There is no fee for this get together.  Contact store for dates.
Jeanne's Sweatshirt Classes
Jeanne will be teaching three different sweatshirts.  You may chose your favorite to make in class from "A Tisket, A Tasket", "Cardinal Couple" or "Going Quackers".  Each one is cuter than the next and you will have a hard time choosing one.  That's OK, make them all.  The cost is $25.00 plus the cost of the kit.  The class is free if you purchase your sweatshirt and kit at the store.   Class dates and times are:  January 26, March 8 or 13, April 3 from 10-1.  Also February 16 or May 17 from 1-4.
Kaleido Crazies from Buggy Barn
This Buggy Barn pattern quilt features octagon pieced centers that become the central units of conjoined stars.  Cheri will teach this fun method on March 17 from 10-3 or on March 30 or May 5 from 5-9.  Fee is $25.00 and includes the pattern.  If you have never done stack and slash quilts or even if you have, this is a fun and fast quilt to make.
Lady Slipper Appliqué Wall Hanging
Celebrate spring in the northwoods by completing this hand appliqué wall hanging.  You'll capture the beauty of this rare and elusive wildflower to enjoy year round.    Christine will teach this class on February 10 or May 11 from 10-3.  Cost is $20.00 plus the pattern.
Lasagna Lap Quilt
Sew it from strips and and get it done quickly.  This quilt can be done with leftovers from other projects to get a scrappy look or you can coordinate your fabrics to give it a more planned look.  You could complete this quilt top before you leave for the day.  From the book "Spring Cleaning."  Instructor is Christine and class will be January 16 from 10-3.  Cost is $20.00 and the book is required.  We'll be serving lasagna for lunch with this class.
Midnight Garden Wall Hanging
This wool wall hanging or pillow class will be taught by Dee Dee on March 10 from 10-2 or 5-9.  This pattern features a great spring flowers and bunny look and is from the book Meadow Threads (required).  Class fee is $20.
Panel Magic
What do I do with those panel, theme or border prints that I fell in love with and now are stashed in the back of my closet?  Help is on the way.  We show you how to cut them apart and sew them back together to make a unique and one of a kind quilt by adding other border prints, sashings or pieced blocks.  Jeanne dug deep in her closet to make this one.  The class will cost $20. and run from 10-3 on April 14.  This could expand to a two session class if needed.
Paper Piecing
Learn the art of paper piecing while creating this unique quilt.  If the tumbling blocks has interested you but you don't want to tackle a "Y" seam here is a project for you.  The blocks are large enough to make a quilt for your bed in no time at all.  This pattern is from the magazine "Quilts With Style". The purchase of five issues of the magazine will be required.  Talei teaches this three session class on February 24, March 2 and 9 from 10-3.  Cost is $45.00.
Pfaff Basics Class for new owners
This class covers the machine basics, what the feet are for, how to put them on and how to use them.  We also teach you basic machine maintenance.   This is a free class held every 4th Wednesday of the month from 10-12.  Please register in advance.
Pfaff Club
This 2 hour class will help you utilize the different stitches and feet on your Pfaff.  We will make a small project each month.  The class is free but there may be a small supplies fee dependent upon the project for that month.  The class will be held every 4th Thursday of the month from 10-12.  Please call to register.
Pfaff Embroidery Club
This class is for Pfaff Embroidery machine owners.  We will cover embroidery basics, alignment, stabilizers, moving within the hoop and properly hooping your design.  This is a free class but there may be a small charge for project supplies.  This class is taught every 4th Thursday of the month from 1-3.  Please call to register.
Primitive Christmas/Winter Sampler
The cookies are eaten, the tree has lost its needles and you are ready to get going on a new project.  You'll have an early start on the blocks for a wonderful primitive quilt.  Find a couple of friends and get together to work on a new block each month using a variety of easy techniques.   Next Christmas everyone will wonder how you found the time.  Linda teaches every 4th Thursday of the month from 12:30-3:30 except January which will be on the 29th.  Cost is $15.00.
Purse With Rug Hooked Flowers
Chris Karmen will teach rug hooking small areas with an embroidery hoop and hook to decorate a 7" x 10" spring bag.  This technique can also be applied to scarves, pillows, vests and many more items.  Cost is $35.  and includes the pattern.  This class will run from 10-3 on January 31, March 27 or April 23.
Rug Hooking For Beginners
This is the new craft that everyone is wanting to learn!   Dani will be teaching this class.  You will learn all the skills necessary to be a rug hooker.  The class will be offered on several different occasions so you can easily find one day to meet your needs.  The class runs from 10-3.  Please contact the store to set up an appointment that will be convenient for you and the teacher.
Shadow Nine Patch
Judy will teach this technique that utilizes cutting and piecing that are easy enough for a beginner but challenging and fun for all skill levels.  The arrangement of the final blocks makes this quilt so interesting.  Contrasting colors are necessary and provide the final dramatic finished product.  Judy will teach this class on February 28, March 19 or May 6 from 10-3.  Cost is $25.
Stack and Slash Crazy Nine Patch
You won't be able to resist snuggling in front of the fire under this quilt!  Linda will teach you to use the Stack and Slash (not to be confused with Stack and Whack) technique.  You will really enjoy piecing  this easy nine patch variation.  If you have been wanting to try a flannel quilt this is the project for you! For beginners and not so beginners.  10-3:30   Fee $25.00    April 6.
Thimble Bag
Why not try beading jewels?  This class will teach you basic beading techniques.  You will use beads and ribbon to create an amulet style thimble bag.  Dee Dee will teach this class from 10-3 or 4-9 on February 12.  The cost is $50. and includes all materials and the pattern.
Think Spring Penny Rug
This is a lovely little table piece done in wool.  The bright cheery colors will have you thinking spring.  You'll love it so much that you'll do another as a gift.  If you want to try working in wool this is the place to start.  Dee Dee will teach this one on March 18, April 8 or 27th from 10-3.  Cost is $20.00 plus the cost of the kit.
Underground RailRoad Quilt
Create this quilt and learn the basics to quilting while you learn the history of the different blocks used by the slaves to travel to freedom.  This class is great for the beginner or for someone who wants to brush up on quilting techniques.  Talei will begin with fabric cutting.  The objective is to complete the top by the end of the six lessons.  Lesson dates are January 14, 21, 28, February 4, 11 and 18.  The cost for this six session class is only $60.00.  The Quilt In A Day book Underground Railroad Sampler is required and lists all of your necessary fabric supplies.
Wonder Cut Basics
Is learning something new on your "To Do" list for the new year?  Then this is the class for you.   If you haven't heard of or tried the "Wonder Cut" ruler don't wait any longer.  This ruler is different because it use a method for half and quarter square triangles called "pre sewing".  It's the reverse of most rulers.  Linda teaches you to sew first and then cut and says your quilt will be done in no time.  March 30 from 10-3:30 and the fee is $25.00.
Wool Purse
Dee Dee is teaching this unique and funky wool appliqué on wool purse on February 20 or April 14 from 10-2.  She'll also teach you to embellish with beading.  A great gift or make it for yourself.  Cost is $20.00 plus the kit.
