EXT ALLEY BEHIND BRONZENIGHT

Anya *poofs* back on the scene and finds the demon retreating as Buffy lies unconscious nearby.  She panics, not sure who to run to, the demon or Buffy.  She yells.

ANYA
Hey, Mr. Broody Batman-wolf changeling-thingy.
I am Anyanka of the demon underworld, and I bid
you to remain in this uh battle zone, for soon you
are to face a strong warrior.

The wolf-demon turns, lets out an enormous growl and faces her.

DEMON
Anyanka, you a demon of vengeance must know the
plight and the quest that I am on--to seek out the
Wiccan Warrior Willow as my Master has deemed of
me to seek revenge in his name.  Neither you, nor the
Slayer can stop this quest.

ANYA
OK.  Well then, how about I just halt it a little bit.

Anya raises her hand in an outstretched position and toward the demon as she speaks.  Searching for words, she begins a spell.

ANYA
Atticus corpus, determinus rau

From her outstretched hand comes a bolt of electricity that zaps the beast.  Though it does not cause permanent damage, it is enough to buy her some time to check out Buffy.

ANYA
(slaps Buffys face in an effort
to revive her)

Buffy, Cmon, work with me here. Cmon Buffy.
Willows on her way.  We just gotta keep things
together.

Anya slaps her again.  Buffy stirs and slaps her back instinctually.  Anya gets knocked over.

ANYA
Thats the thanks I get?

By now, the demon has recovered from Anyas diversion and Buffy is at the ready.  The demon begins to morph again.  This time it begins to change from the wolf form into something bigger, and griffin-like. Angelic wings begin to sprout from its side; its tail begins to lengthen.

ANYA
Buffy, strike now, its weakest when its in
transformation.

Buffy grabs a nearby crate and breaks off a stake-like piece of wood from it.  She strikes at the cloud of dust and causes some damage.  The cloud of dust flickers a bit and is slowed in transformation, but it is brief, and soon it grows to become large and griffin-like in appearance.   Huge paws, a beak-like snout that hides menacing teeth, strong limbs--every appendage is a weapon.  The new form is mightier than all previous incarnations.

INT OZS VANNIGHT

Willow and Oz are in the van, speeding toward Sunnydale..

WILLOW
Oz, you know thats the most words you ever
said to me all at once.

OZ
Some things change.

WILLOW
God, I never imagined Id be in this van again.

OZ
Some dont.
(looks at her tenderly)
I did.  Imagined it a thousand times.

WILLOW
Ooh!  Oh my God.

OZ
Dont worry; were almost there.

WILLOW
Wait.  I figured something out.

Oz raises an eyebrow

WILLOW
We have to make a quick stop.

EXT ALLEY BEHIND BRONZENIGHT

The fight continues.  Anya tries her spell again to help Buffy in the battle.  Buffy has resumed fighting with the sword but cant do as much damage because the demon is now in solid form without much chance of transforming anytime soon.  However the damage she did cause slows it from striking at her as much.  She continues blocking a paw, a wing, a tail,  an arm.  She jumps and somersaults out of the way at every opportunity, jabbing at it with the tip of the weapon when possible.

Xander and Dawn dash into the alley behind Buffy.  Dawns wrist is wrapped in a soft cast.  Their eyes are agape when they see the size of the demon.

XANDER
The wolf seemed much more do-able

BUFFY
Xander, Dawn how did you find us?  Dawn
are you OK?

Xander and Dawn hang on the fringes of the fight.  Offering the demon enough distraction so Buffy can get in a few blows between their lines of conversation.

XANDER
Anya called Dawns cell.

ANYA
I had some time between poofs.  I switched to
that new plan.  Great signal!

DAWN
Buffy, Im gonna take the rear.  Maybe cause
some damage to those wings.

BUFFY
Can you?  What about your arm?

DAWN
Its just a sprain.  Let me help you.
(She arms herself with
the crossbow)

Guess I can work on my aim now.

Dawn slides carefully along the side wall of the alley toward the rear of the beast.  She holds the crossbow at her side.  Buffy gives her cover so that she can get behind the thing and aim the bow at the back of its monstrous wings.  She shoots and it lands directly where they meet.  The demon yells, irritated.  Dawn deflects its attention from Buffy by baiting it, running around its legs, jumping on its tail and basically just aggravating it.

They continue the fight, but the beast has more power just from its size alone.  From the shadows step Willow and Oz.  Willow stands frozen for a minute, but Oz steps behind her and puts a hand on her shoulder.  The beast draws its attention immediately from the Slayer and her sister and focuses on Willow.

DEMON
You.

WILLOW
And you.

XANDER
Phew, good thing Willow and Oz showed.
Oz?  Did I fall asleep or wish us into an
alternate universe or something?

DEMON
You are responsible for an evil deed and today
is your day of judgment.  You shall suffer for
your sins, you wicca of dark magic.

The demon lashes a long, clawed arm toward Willow, grazing her face.  She falls back in pain and lands in Ozs waiting arms.

XANDER
Willow!

Helped up by Oz, she is soon up at her feet again.

WILLOW
I am not afraid to face you.  I do have regret for
my deeds, big time.  But you are not judge and jury
of me.  No, youre nothing but a lap dog for a gutless
wonder who himself had way bigger sins.

The beast strikes again and Willow dashes away.

BUFFY
Hey old statuey-demon dude, want a piece
of us?

Buffy and Dawn attack together with the sword, crossbow and their combined strength.  They aim for the eyes of the creature causing damage that makes it begin to morph--the opportunity that theyve been waiting for.

OZ
Willow, its changing.  Now!

Oz throws her a nozzle of a weapon which connects through wires and tubes to a silver, oxygen looking container that he has strapped on his back

WILLOW
Lock and load.  Payback from your
maker and me.

Willow grabs the nozzles trigger, aims and shoots right toward the creature.  Out comes a ray of freezing liquid.  It is the gun that freezes people.  The one Warren and the rest of the troika fashioned for use in their diamond heist.   It freezes the demon, mid- transformation, into some sort of misty fog, which quickly becomes like ice.  The gang, except Oz approach the demon to finish it off, but Oz holds out his hand to dissuade them.

OZ
This is her fight.

Willow grabs the sword from Buffy and steps forward.

WILLOW
That wasnt so hard after all.

She swings at the frozen beast repeatedly, releasing her rage as she slices and dices the ice. The Scoobs watch, knowing that they are seeing her come to terms with things.  Its not so much about anger, but more a release for her.  Nothing much is left but shards and chunks of ice.  Willow approaches Oz.  He puts his arm around her shoulder and they walk off.  The gang begins to follow.  Anya turns back, mutters a quick spell

ANYA
Flamus eruptus

She points toward the remains, and they alight and melt away.

ANYA
And now were done.

EXT. SUMMERS HOME-- NEXT EVENING

Outside on the porch Oz and Willow stand.  Hes got his bag over his shoulder and keys dangling in his hands.  It seems clear that hes gonna be taking off.

OZ
So was I right in coming?

Willow shakes her head in acknowledgment

OZ
And Im right in going?

WILLOW
Im not your responsibility, and youve got
your pack now.

OZ
(laughs)
Right.   My pack of chanters.

WILLOW
I cant ask you to stay just for me.

OZ
So, Ill go--again.

He looks at her for a moment.  There is an understanding and a longing too, but time is up. He nods and begins to walk down the steps and away.  Then Willow calls out to him.

WILLOW
Oz!  Wait!

He turns around to face her, she runs down toward him.  Her body slams into him with passion.  They embrace; tears well up inside her.  He plants a soft, deep, tender kiss on her lips.  She doesnt refuse it.

WILLOW
Im wrong cause I really want you to stay.
(he soothes her)
Just hold me.

She wraps herself in his arms.

OZ
As much as I want to hold you forever, you
know you have to go on without me.

WILLOW
I know.
(shakes her head in reluctant
agreement.)

I wont forget what youve taught me.

OZ
Good.
(he kisses her forehead.)
Remember, we got a date.  You turn that
corner in Istanbul, all blue-haired and
smiling, Ill be there.  Ill always be there.

He begins to walk away again; Xander and Buffy come out on the porch and halt the scene.

XANDER
Willow, all that time you had that horde
of the troikas gadgets.  Bet you never knew
youd have a use for that freeze gun.

WILLOW
You didnt mess with anything else did you?

BUFFY
Dont worry Will.  Ive already discarded
all the questionable objects, and stored
whatevers useful in my weapons chest.

XANDER
Oz, youre leaving already?  1 day and thats
it?  Not much of a Scooby reunion.  And
weve havent even had our hanging-guy
bonding moments.

OZ
Some other time.

Buffy beckons Willow with a look.  Willow approaches.

BUFFY
So how you doing?
(she subtly looks to Oz.)

WILLOW
Its hard, but I think Im gonna be okay--with
everything.  Its a real start.

BUFFY
Good, cause I just spoke with Giles, and he
wants you to come to England to do more of
the healing-good thing.

Oz watches Buffy and Willow for one last moment then turns to Xander.

OZ
Look out for her.

XANDER
My whole life.

EXT. ACROSS THE STREET FROM SUMMERS HOME--NIGHT

POV of someone who is watching the scene unfold.  We see Oz get in his van and drive down the street passing the POV of person.  Willow and Xander step back into the house, arm in arm.  Buffy is on porch alone.  She hesitates--thinking, looks up at the stars.  She looks across the street directly toward camera view.  She squints as if she sees or senses something but cant quite make it out.  She gives, up, and begins to head back to the front door.

EXT FROM THE SHADOWS

A rustling sound and then a figure steps out of the shadows.  Dressed simply in a button down shirt and pants--almost unfamiliar-looking with dark hair that is smoothed down--steps out the artist formerly known as Spike.  It is WILLIAM and he is watching the Slayer.

WILLIAM
My fair sweet, you think you know whats to come.
Soon your crystal clear eyes will truly see.

EXT SUMMERS HOUSE PORCH

Buffy is about to enter the door, when something stops here.  She stops short and turns around again, looking in the direction where William stands.

CLOSE-UP of her eyes as they open in surprise

Buffy inhales deeply.

FADE TO BLACK.
