The
day started as many others do, with the sun shining, a gentle breeze blowing and
my having way too many things to do. Today
the priority was to drive to San Antonio to see my husband, who was in
the hospital. It was a drive I knew well, and normally just a quiet reflective
trip. But not today, for today I would see my very own guardian angel! I have read hundreds of stories about people who have an angel intercede for them and then disappear, no one knowing his/her name or how they got there. I believed every one!
I
believe in Angels Unaware as the Bible tells us in Hebrews 13:2.
I
got into my car, a 1980 Olds that ran great and headed out. The only real
problem I had with this old car was that the gas gauge would hang on full, and
then drop all the way down to half. It was then you quickly found a gas station
or ran out of gas.
Today,
the gas gauge was on full, in fact way over, past the full mark. I figured my
husband had just filled it up before he went into the hospital. Wrong! I had driven almost half the distance to the hospital when the car started to lurch occasionally. I had just exited the state highway onto the frontage road, and gotten up over the hill near the overpass, when the car motor died! Just died! Turning the key, the starter worked, but the motor just wouldn’t start. There I sat, traffic flying around me.
I
had my cell phone with me as usual, but it was a national holiday and I was
trying to think who to call. Surprisingly, I wasn’t frightened about sitting
in the middle of traffic in San Antonio.
Finally
I found my son, and he and his friend were on their way.
I just had to "sit tight" and they’d "be there as soon
as possible".
After
about 15 minutes, I noticed a small black truck pass me, pull over and stop. Out
of the driver’s side came a nice looking young man about 25, maybe 5’7”
with a medium build. From the passenger side of the truck came a petite young
lady, about 5’4”. Both came over to the driver’s side and asked me if they
could help me by taking me to a store to call someone. I told them I had already
called my son and he would be here shortly, and that I would just wait here for
him.
I
thanked them for their concern, but they were rather insistent that I not sit in
the car where it was, because of the heavy morning traffic.
When
they finally accepted that I wouldn’t leave my car, they insisted on pushing
it up onto the curb out of harm’s way.
I
actually laughed at them, because in my mind I could not picture this sweet
couple, who together didn’t look like they could push their truck, much less
this old, solidly made Oldsmobile. But they kept insisting on helping this old
lady stranded on the side of the road.
Oh…I
must tell you first, that the car was sitting on the only flat area of that
frontage road. Forward was an incline up and backward was an incline up. To push
my car in either direction, they would have to push it up over the curb, thru a
mud hole, and up onto the grass to safety. All this with ME in the car! I put the car in neutral, whispered a quick prayer that they wouldn't hurt themselves with their effort, and they began to push. I was totally shocked when the car began to move backward and up onto the curb and over it. But then it got stuck in that mud hole, with the car now half on and half off the road in more danger than it had been originally!
Before
any of us could think about what to do next, my angel appeared -- jogging up
from the interstate side of the off ramp. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw a
slight young man wearing shorts, a tee shirt and running shoes, not much bigger
than the young lady standing at the front of my car. He jogged up, stopped, put
his back to the car and the three of them pushed the car up and out of that mud
hole and onto the grass, out of danger. The jogger never spoke a word!
I
looked up from the steering wheel to see the young man turn away from my car and
continue jogging on his way. The same surprised look on the young couple's faces
must have been on mine. By the time I got out and walked to the front of my car, the jogger was gone. He was nowhere in sight.
The
young couple and I looked at each other and then looked back towards the road in
total disbelief!
I
thanked them both and, as they were walking to their truck, I saw they were still
shaking their heads and looking back trying to see where the jogger had gone. I
was still shaking my head too, for I couldn’t believe that the two of them,
much less that skinny little jogger, could move my car with me in it.
Then
it dawned on me, I had met an angel in disguise. Actually, three blessed angels
-- the young couple that wouldn’t let mee stay on the roadway for fear I would
be hurt, and the unknown man, who jogged to my rescue and then disappeared!
My
son and his friend showed up about 15 minutes later and quickly realized that
the gas gauge was not hung on full, it was broken and I was out of gas. When I
told them of my encounter with angels, they didn’t laugh at me, which I
expected them to do. They were in awe too, and as thankful as I was the three had
come to my rescue. ©2002,

I started this webring last year before I met my own angel and would like to invite each and everyone of you that believe in angels to join me telling the world that there are angels who come to your aid. to see you there, Kat |
