Quigleys Point cherished ambition of completing the Grand Slam for the second year was achieved on Sunday Last when they defeated Rasheney United in the McIvor cup final at Shamrock Park, Clonmany before a good attendance.
Although Quigleys Point had a two goal lead in their favour at the finish, the rsult was in doubt until a two goal blast by Brian McIvor in the final 8 minutes.
Rasheney started well and created a couple of chances in the opening quater. To Quiglys Point , however, fell the best oppertunity of taking the lead, but John McDaid sent the ball wide from the penalty spot.
Neil McColgan picked up a loose ball following a corner to hook yhe ball home from just inside the area, to put Quigleys Point ahead in the 30th minute. Up to this the Swifts had been far from impressive, but this goal although againdt the run of play, was the tonic the Point needed and for the remainder of the half Rasheney were under heavey pressure and luck to escape when Neol McColgan crashed the ball against the crossbar.
Swifts started where thet left off after the break and Bradley had to move quickly off his linr to save at the feet of McIvor. Rasheney now went all out for the equaliserwhich eventually came in the 60th minute when goalkeeper Gabriel McColgan could only palm out a John Joe McLaughlin free for Liam Collins to head home from close in. With extra time looming the Point broke the deadlock folling a fine run by Shaun Magee down the right and when the fullback sent the ball across McIvor rose high to head a magnificent gola in the 82nd minute. McIvor rapped it up 6 minutes later when he caught Bradley off his line with a perfectly executed chip from just outside the area.
