Joyce & Mike Shannon Were Guests On KZSU'S TagLines

Kudos to Joyce and Mike for guesting on KZSU's radio show "TagLines" hosted by DJ "Tag," Johanna Wise, on Tues. Oct. 6.

Jan Hanway Quickstepper Choreographer Jan Hanway

Jan was born in Oakland and raised in El Cerrito. She has lived in the Bay Area all her life except for two years in Sacramento and a year bumming around Europe in the 70's. She went to Cal as an undergraduate and got her master's degree in Counseling from SFSU. She has been a school counselor and therapist for over 30 years. Jan has 2 grown children.

Her main hobby is black and white photography. You can view some of Jan's early photography work at www.janhanway.com. While photography nurtures her soul, she relieves her stress physically by dancing. She also likes gardening and is a huge 49er and Giants fan.

Jan started dancing at the age of 4 with ballet and modern dance lessons. By the time she was six, she had choreographed her first dance. In high school she choreographed her school's musical "Our Town" and many of her pompom routines.

Ten years ago she saw a group of Jim Williams' line dancers doing a demonstration and remembers seeing our very own John Gallo and thinking "I want to do that." She signed up for lessons in Pacifica. While not a fan of country music, she has learned to like it. She prefers a nightclub two step or Latin beat and really loves rock and honky tonk. Her favorite line dance is "Amazing" and her favorite country dances are "Stampede" and "Hot Tamales." Her favorite line dance that she wrote is "Stay" done to Jackson Browne's version. Jan's favorite dancers/choreographers are Michael Barr and Simon Ward.

Several years ago Jan said "I am so happy I found this wonderful dance community. It's good people knowing how to have a good time!" the same is true today.

Below is a video of Jan's latest choreography, "Living For The Night," which was danced at Quicksteppers' Birthday Bash dance September 19.
