A Short History of the Artist

The artist was born, Michael William Moses, in the small Southern Virginia town of
Christiansburg, in 1959. At the age of four he moved to the Baltimore, Maryland area with his parents.
He attended Brooklyn Park Elementary School and Brooklyn Park High School, where he graduated in 1978.
Michael attended one year (the 8th grade) of schooling in Christiansburg, Va. After high school Michael
Joined The U.S.Air Force. He went for his technical training at Chanute Air Force base in Illinois.
His first duty assignment was Cannon A.F.B. near Clovis New Mexico. While stationed at Cannon he entered
a number of local and Air Force juried art shows where his work won numerous awards. In 1980 he was stationed
In Athens, Greece at Hellenikon A.F.B. Here he started his first paintings.on canvas. He had a much praised showing in a gallery
in the Kolanoki district of Athens. This showing left him feeling un sure about where he was going with his art.
He felt unsatisfied with his paintings, saying that that they were to stuffy and pretty, having no substance or meaning.
He stated that one night he awoke to the fact that his paintings were
nothing but milk sop and so much tourist trash,so he took every one of his painting and went out on the
balcony of his apartment and burned them one by one on the Barbeque grill. He said it was one of the most
important moments of his artistic life. After spending three years in Greece, Michael did not paint for a long time
after that. He spent vast amounts of time studying art. After Greece, he was re-stationed in New Mexico, at Holloman A.F.B.
at Alamogordo, where he lived for a year and a half. He was then reassigned to Hellenikon A.F.B.
Michael did not start painting again until he was stationed At Castle A.F.B., at Atwater, California in 1987.
While in California Michael Moses was at a creative high point, producing numerous paintings, drawings, prints.
While in central California He displayed his works in various art shows and sold exclusively through the
"Arbor Gallery" in Merced CA. In 1990 he was stationed at Howard A.F.B.,Panama. In Panama he continued
with his art and continued selling his work free lance. In 1993 Michael Moses discontinued his Military service
and went to Regina, New Mexico to live and paint full time. Failing to support himself with his art he had to
abandon his dreams. Going back to Baltimore Maryland, where his parents still live. He trained as a plumber and
worked at that trade until recently, when he was diagnosed as having Diabetes. He now resides in seclusion. Thom E. Moore feb.2001
