| IV. *A secret star that cannot shine over to you* Star. Secrets. One in the same. Past and present. The future is a whispered secret even to herself, so quiet she can't hear. She lies curled in a corner of her four posted queen bed. Purple blue and wine red, cotton feathers quilts skin. She feels a soft hand against her cheek, and Jewel's warm kiss on her shoulder, and a cold draft from the whipped wind outside her rattling rotting window. She opens her eyes to the cold air. Alone. Star walks to her window, it's snowing. The wood floor creaks under her bare feet. Bitter cold, bitter thoughts. Blame never falls silently like the snow. Sometimes guilt is the only thing that keeps people around. "I'm Sorry". She used to feel it was worth while, for June's sake. June. Who is June? Is she a real person or merely an unatainable ideal? The girl everyone is searching for and almost no one ever fnds. Not to keep. A chard of glass, a string in the web. Broken mirrors, broken words. Scattered pieces. Blind, deaf, and too dumb to pick them up herself. Swirling. She dances in the nude and sings in the shower, she lets people tell her she's beautiful but only sometimes believes it. Star rolls over into Ruby's eyes. Her Jewel, another June. Ruby never lets in a compliment. She can see one comming a mile away, an expert at dodge ball. Why do beautiful people never see their true reflection? Perhaps their mirrors are shattered as well. Broken like the sky. Fading constallations. Falling stars no one sees to make a wish. All she needs is a hug, all she dreams are warm embraces. All she does is cry vacant eyes, but no one hears, they just change the channel. III. back to main page |
